With my ancient old turbo trainer not fitting my new bike, I've decided to upgrade to modern smart trainer (when I can get my hands on one).
Previously I've used Zwift (dumb trainer + Power meter combo), training plans just worked out with wattages etc. From what I've read a smart trainer will be far better when doing that.
I also used to like the GCN training videos, but my slow of thinking head can't work out how I can use them with a Smart trainer, there's no way to control the resistance from them and just setting a power level won't work?
I'd be grateful if anyone could explain it?
Your smart trainer would usually connect to a mobile app provided by the manufacturer. Through that you can increases the resistance manually if you so wanted.
Some GPS units also allow you to change the resistance, for example my Garmin Edge connects to my Tacx trainer through which I can increase the resistance.
I use the GCN vids with my smart trainer occasionally.
Just use the turbo in "normal mode" (not ERG) and pedal.
I have the GCN vid on my iPad that isn't connected to the trainer and watch my power on my Garmin which is connected to the trainer.
Works fine.
You get GCN videos on sufferfest, obviously that is subscription
Cheers folks, makes sense and glad it can be done.
Also didn't know about them on sufferfest, will check it out.
Thanks
