What is the external battery pack of choice for giving a garmin a boost, especially when mapping (and in the cold weather) my 820 is taking a nap just 4 or 5 hours into a ride.

Must be waterproof (resistant I guess), and not too big/heavy, I would guess around 2500mah should be enough for up to ~12 hour Audax events.

p.s. From memory the port is on the front underside, how do I go about making the connection water resistant?

Do you use exposure lights? If so I think their support cells can also be used to charge usb devices.

Anker 3350 does the job for me.

Available at everyone’s favourite online store.

You can get USB cables where the connector is at right angles to the cable, avoids undue strain on the connector.

I've a water resistant power cell - can't remember the make/model - but even with this I'd be siting/aligning it so that the USB port faces downwards and avoids water dripping into it.
