The Mrs broke XT her clutch mech after a year and mine (SLX) looks like it's gone after 2 months.
If I hassle the LBS for a warranty exchange am I going to get the same type back or have the fixed the poxy clutch spring design yet?
They seem to have a really flimsy strip of metal supporting the cam. I fixed mine by opening up the cam housing and jamming some hard plastic behind the cam replacing the metal bit that broke.
Like above, I fixed mine by opening up the clutch bit, but used a one of those little metal rings you get with your inner tube to bodge a fix. Works a treat.

If you 'hassle' them odds on all you'll get is nothing..., it's a bit like complaining that you've a puncture on your 2-month old car, or you've snapped a drill-bit while using it in a drill.
If may be worth asking nicely, but tbh it's a consumable.
Known issue + no signs of damage = warranty claim worth a go. IMO.
I bought a slx one back in May from merlin, it broke just before Christmas and they replaced with no problems.
My XT one went in the same place after a fair few months - Got a replacement mech form whatever online retailer I bought it from.
Dont expect it to last very long though - totally shonky design. Far too much stress on a very thin bit of metal.
That is what I could not work out when mine went. It was really easy to fix by making the cam press against the casing instead of the weedy bit of metal so why could Shimano not do the same and mold the casing so that it supported the cam?
If you take a look on the MTBR forums you'll find this is becoming quite common - bad design of the cam retaining bracket - not up to the job. Mine went over Xmas. Quick email to CRC and I had a new one four days later. Just in case I've bought a couple of spare cams from one of those German online shops for 3.27 Euro each - easy to replace.

Didn't mean to imply that I can be hard work or argumentative in person, just the effort of taking the bike to the shop!
Mech is mint, maybe a few scuffs. I'll see what they say and maybe brace the new one before it breaks.
I'd done some reading and seen that they had fixed the same flaw with the XTR mechs - looks like us lower down the food chain are still waiting 🙄
Mine's just gone (slx). Inevitably it went when I was in the lakes for 3 days riding rocky stuff, so my chain stay has some lovely chips now 😕
Sending it back to Ribble but wonder if Shimano has fixed the underlying problem?
If it happens again I'll be tempted to bodge. Putting a screw in the spring and tightening until it's ok for riding, and accepting wheel removal is a faff is my preferred option atm...
