converting my rail 9 from sram GX drive train to shimano XT / SLX mix (not getting on with eagle). have had a new wheel built up with microspline free hub (hope pro 4 boost / 148) as had virtually destroyed the soft as cheese bontrager rear rim anyhow. however once the cassette is fitted the lock ring fouls / sticks on the all in one dropout / mech hanger as the hanger protrudes quite a lot.
cassette is deff seated correctly. lock ring is tightened as much as i dare before stripping the thread and the dropout / mech hanger is seated correctly in the frame, however it fouls that badly that you cant easily turn the cassette once the thru axle is tightened??
i'm at a bit of a loss, i can see the problem but i dont know what the solution is. the sram XD drive with GX cassette doesn't have a lock ring that sits proud, but the tight tolerances of 12 spd means the SLX cassette wont turn. its almost like the hub end cap is a few mm too short, however its a brand new hope pro 4 boost / 148 mm hub.
any ideas? its almost like it needs a different drop out to run shimano 12 spd, but surely not??
The hanger listed in the tech docs does refer to it as a SRAM hanger. I can't see a Shimano version listed anywhere though.
That's the same hanger I have on my Rail 7 with SLX cassette.
Did you fit a microspline freehub on the wheels and is the freehub seal fully pushed in/seated?
I take it the freehub came with a different end cap also?

Wheel was built up by reputable LBS. all looks seated properly though. No different end caps, just normal hope silver drive side, black non drive side
Is the silver microspline end cap not different from standard HG or XD end caps? I know they are on DT Swiss, but not sure about Hope. Possible they've put the wrong one on when building?
easy way to check if the freehub is seated. Does the cassette come off the wheel easily with the freehub still attached?
I have a Slash and just fitted all SLX (took the GX off) and didn't run into any issues with DT Swiss hubs.
Might be worth asking the shop to check it out if there's nothing else obvious.

freehub definitely seems seated correctly, maybe there is a different end cap for microspline, looks like a trip to the shop
I switched my ibis wheels from an HG freehub to microspline and the MS freehub came with a longer end cap. The microspline freehub is a bit shorter than HG/XD, so if they’ve just swapped the original end cap over then that might be what’s causing your problem.
I couldn’t use the slightly domed 1170 cassette lock ring on my trek Crockett. Had to use the flat 1130 lock ring for the same reason; wheel bound up due to lock ring catching on hanger. Have you got a flat out face lock ring you can try?

new hub rather than converted so you'd like to think all parts were correct out of the box, perhaps not

good call, hadn't thought of a flatter face lockring, will investgate
Might help identify if the driveside spacer looks right.

thanks. i'm assuming that X12 spacer is for 12 spd, and the standard 12mm spacer is for everything else, however i thought microspline was only for 12 spd?? but yess, the X12 spacer does look longer
problem solved, it was a rogue end cap, all sorted now, thanks for the input all
Was the wrong one supplied, or just in the wrong position?

wrong one supplied by hope with the microspline free hub by the looks of it (although new hub, had to be converted from XD freehub due to supply chain hold ups)
Just pop my cheque in the post 🙂
