Can't work this out. Never had issues with ht2 cranks before, they tighten fine, I don't forget the little spacer thing and will ride fine for about 1.5hrs then start to.come loose. Have to reinstall. Torqueing them up correctly too. Any ideas?
Once the splines have worn from being ridden while not-quite-tight, it will never stay on, at least that's my experience.
Probably not what you want to hear, sorry.
If it was me, I would be tempted to bodge it with some loctite on the splines, although it might make removal tricky.
Had this on some old Deore cranks. As oldanpastit said, i tried Loctite bearing retainer and it worked on mine. Depends how bad the splines are worn.
Seems to be a bit of a thing with SLX 12 speed. I had the same happen and have read several tales of it happening to others. Even torquing to the max 14nM didn’t keep them on, the little plastic lock ring fell off and disappeared. You could try a metal lock ring, and possibly go even tighter on the crank bolts but I fear you may need new cranks...
Common problem on the e-bikes that use Steps 8000 (Similar mounting system).
Buy an aluminium bolt to replace the plastic job. Works every time on the e-bikes (although they need a bolt for each side).
If splines are worn, then add bearing retainer too. Make sure it's all really clean before assembling.
When the splines get worn is just the arm are do the axle splines go as well, if its just the arm someone on here probably has a spare shimano left arm. I also recommend alloy preload bolt like KCNC ones, I've never had an issue with ht2 cranks but I've always used a KCNC bolt and the two bolts have never loosened on me either even when swapped out with ti bolts, always greased, never needed loctite, I'm guessing its a bad batch of 12sp SLX as mentioned above.
Mmm,
I've recently purchased these for a build I'm thinking now what's the best measure to take?
I can't send back as have had too long,
one of the kcnc preload bolts as mentioned above?
I've always had Shimano cranks and never had this issue, fingers crossed it's not part of the batch.
OP,can you not take it up with retailer?
the little plastic lock ring fell off and disappeared
It’s not a lock ring, it’s not meant to have anything to do with keeping the cranks on the spindle. However...... in a pinch (such as the OP) a metal one can sometimes help you get by

Of course, it’s a preload not a lock ring.. up far to early for a Sunday.
OP. The metal preload caps have been reported to help and You could also try a blob of thread lock on the crank bolts to stop them loosening
I’m now in the habit of checking the bolt torque every couple of rides. If it’s any reassurance her bike has SLX cranks an hasn’t had any issue.
I'll try and alloy bolt first and see if thst makes a difference.
Too old for warranty I would imagine as I think they its only 12 months and I've had them for longer.
Any alloy bolt from ebay do or is there one thst works better than others?
Not had an issue yet, but I did notice the splined area seems smaller for 12 speed cranks? Doesn't stick out as far from the BB, so less to clamp onto.
There are two different diameters of bolt, just make sure you get the right one.
(I've had my XT cranks held together with loctite and an aluminium bolt for over a year, not had a problem so far).
