Anyone had slow pick-up and / or a spongy feeling on their Alfine 8?

Mine seems to have developed this on my last ride.

All gears seem to work fine and shifting is spot on as usual.

Yes home service, fixed it for me, rinse and degrease internals, they tend to generate a lot of metallic dust inside when bedding in + if you get a bit of moisture & dirt in....
Have a look at the hub stripping site, home of hub gear geekery....
It's a v easy job to do...

Try cleaning the gear cable first - or use a new inner.

I'm not sure what you mean by a spongy feeling though.

like my chain is made of elastic, you put power down and there is a bit of resistance & movement before the wheel moves.

just picked up a new inner as I've been meaning to change that for a while.

Mine has done it since new on gear 5 up.
I looked into it at the time and found other reports of the "spring loaded" feeling in first few degrees of crank rotation.
I think it's normal.

odd, I've not noticed it in the 6 months previous but a new cable & a service can't hurt

On my Alfine I've never had the spongy feel, nor on the Nexus 8 hub I had previously.

Slightly off-topic but what post ride 'care' do you do on your Alfines? I'm not talking a full take off and service but the regular simple stuff. Do you spray off the mud, add any lube anywhere aside chain, etc? At the moment mine seems to be ride, clean & lube chain, put in shed...I wondered if people did more?
