can anyone recommend one please? i want it to fit under jacket for winter riding, i currently have a evoc hip pack pro which is awesome, but its too bulky to go under my jacket in winter

so i want something that is much slimmer/less bulky but can still handle car keys, phone, co2 and a few other small spares like tyre lever etc?

really minimalist and doesnt move once its in place (should be easier with it being smaller)

Evoc racebelt looks ideal for your needs too. I'm wanting to go the other way, needing a bit more space in my hippack (need to fit an extra fleece in it for pub rides)

just looked at the evoc racebelt - it doesnt hold a phone very easily, but definitely the sort of thing im after

i think looking at it the dakine hotlaps stealth is the one im after

tracey does it stay put ok? with it having a slim belt? my evoc pro doesnt move but this is down to the oversized large belt straps

I have a hot laps stealth and really like it. It fits well under a top and stays put. I carry a phone, car key, card/cash, multitool, tyre lever, Stans dart, a few small spares, tie wraps, a tiny pump and haribos!

The above mentioned dirt cheap running hip pack things work well for me on short rides - keys, multi tool, tyre levers, pump, c02, phone.

Tiny, dirt cheap, cant really tell its there.

I should have said in my earlier post that I have the Dakine Hot Laps pack and the £6 Karrimor runners belt. I use the runners belt most of the time as it has the same capacity as the Dakine one (phone, keys, cereal bar), but is smaller, lighter and runs cooler.

In my opinion you're paying MTB tax for the Dakine/Evoc alternatives.

+1

I have a Lowe Alpine Mini - was £5 iirc in a sale - and it is the most basic thing going. However it works well and you don't need more IMO, until you have a much larger bumbag/pack etc.

I have a Evoc 1 litre hip pack, that i have had for a while. Not too bulky and enough space for the essentials (phone, car keys, snack, air inflator head, C02 cartridge, a couple of plasters)

I did an impulse buy of a Dakine hotlaps, as it is slightly lower profile. Unfortunately i dont find it very good. Main issue is the 2 fleece lines pockets in it aren't big enough to hold my phone without a tight squeeze. Especially if you have a few other bits in there. I have an iphone SE 2, so its not a tablet size thing.

I have stopped using it and moved back to my Evoc pack.

I use both of the above under my t-shirt/jersey/jacket, depending on what i am wearing. Never on show... as you know... its a frickin bum bag!! 😀

Just put your existing pack outside your jacket?

How do you get at stuff if it is inside your coat?

What about bib shorts with back pockets?

I'd check out runners' packs too, mtb specific is useful for a bigger pack especialyl with a bottle since it's harder to get it to sit just right, but if you're only carrying a few things then runner's packs are usually better- lighter material etc and they sit just as well since there's no weight.

I have a Dakine and a cheapo Decathlon runner's belt and I'll choose the decathlon one every time if I can fit all the stuff I want in it.

If you don't overfill it, you can cinch down a Camelbak Repack so that it's pretty slim

Pack stays tight and is easily adjustable so ours tends to be used by who ever is out riding.
It's always packed with the essentials.
Abigale uses it when she is on the DHs at Wharncliffe as its small and very stable

Bib shorts pockets (didn’t Specialized do a SWAT bib short?), Race Face Rip Strip, a slimline runners bum bag (they’re probably a lot cheaper than a bike version, and I expect and ebike or gravel version is even more expensive 😉). There are probably loads more options but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

As said above, if all you want is a very small and low profile one to hold the small things you listed then a running one would be as good as an expensive bike specific one where you’re paying a ‘bike tax’. I think it’s the bigger ones that are properly replacing a backpack where you need it to hold lots of bike stuff, jacket/gillet, water, tools, first aid kit, etc where the bike specific ones like Dakine and EVOC start to be much more beneficial and worth the money

Check out the Bontrager ones:

Rapid Pack

OR

Rapid Pack Hydro

I've got both and they're both amazing. Super light, stretchy fabric and the bladder sits across your lower bac opposed to out of it like the Camelbak Repak

I’ve got the new Dakine stealth and had the original.
To fit a modern phone you need to unpick the centre divider.
I like the bottle/can holder on the new one and little bit more storage room without being bulky.
