I'm after a new digital camera, that is also good for doing bike videos. Is it possible to buy specific mounts/harnesses for using ordinary cameras as helmet/chest cams?

The video is primarily for use in the Whistler bike park next month, so something fairly robust would be good.

Not used mine for videos, but an Olympus Mju is hard to beat on toughness.

Go pro HD. Its tough small and you can get loads of adapters to mount it to what ever you want. It also takes still photo's in burst mode so you'll always get the shot. Admitidly not as good as a still camera but you'll have to make a compromise if you want both.

I used to carry one of the Olympus MJU's on most rides until I lost it (not on the mountainbike - fell out of a pocket when I was on the motorbike). I've replaced it with a Go Pro Wide and while that's certainly lower quality than the Olympus was it makes up for it with it's very wide angle view and of course it's abilities as a video camera.

The trouble with getting a dedicated video camera is that I don't foresee using it a whole lot. I only really want it for Whistler. On the other hand, I need a new digital camera, so would prefer one that can also be used as a bike cam.

I've just had a look at the Olympus and it seem to have a pretty limited lens for general camera usage.

i just bought a panasonic dmc TZ10 mainly because i wanted the gps tagging - i think there is an identical model without gps

so far i'm impressed - didn't buy for video but the quality is good
though i'm not sure if the format can be used by my video editing software so that might be an issue
and no idea about if can be used on a bike ok

Thanks antigee. I was actually looking at the TZ7, which can shoot a type of HD video.

Are there chest harnesses to use such things as bike cams?

sorry mikey no idea on how useful as a bike cam

only thing i've ever done is stuck my daughters flip on a helmet with a gorilla thing

the wide angle lens is impressive

think from what i read the T27 is the non GPS version though it gets a bit confusing as EU and US model numbering is different
