I am planning on getting a 36 tooth chainring and was planning on a Middleburn one. Is it worth getting a slick shift hardcoat ring, or are you just as well getting a hardcoat ring and saving a few pounds?

Thanks.

Spend the extra, the slick shift basically means its got the ramp pins to help the chain up.

If you want to change gear then slickshift is pretty much essential to get shifting a la one of the big S. Even more important if you only have a 22t inner. Hardcote just makes them last longer.

I use Middleburn on 1 ring set-ups, but on a double or triple I've always found them lacking. Try to get a set of new SLX from here, people often have 'em spare after using the cranks for SS.
