I'm heading up to Slaley this Saturday as I'm at a do in Slaley Hall so plan to get up a bit earlier and have a ride around the Forest first. I've been up a couple of times but always in company of others who know the area or just passing through on the Bolts Law route.

So can anyone point me in the direction of any good trails? I recall seeing some potential tracks over on the North side, possibly near Dukesfield?

I've also intended to post on KTR, but it appears the forum is gone now.

Cheers in advance.

I don't know much in the forest. there used to be a nice track from the middle heading down to the west, but its very churned up doe to felling.
If the weather is good, you're best off heading straight through and over to Blanchland.

Follow Pennypie Lane south (possibly with the cheeky cutoff at Shildon)
Head back over Birkside Fell/Bulbeck Common

If its dry, the track along the west side of the forest is a cracking descent, but its quite churned up by moto-cross bikes, so can by rutty hell.

Don't know what's happened with the KTR forum, you could try them on facebook, likewise try the Muddybums on facebook.

Oh, and nearer Dukesfield, the track/[url to the smelter is ok, but be aware there's lots of conservation work going on down there, so might be busy.

And the cheeky path down to Peth Foot is usually good.

I <think> I have done that one before, nice and fast a few years back. Looking at the OS map, it was possibly the climb from Viewley where there were noticeable trails heading back down through the woods to the North.

I know Pennypipe quite well so may stay on the moors with an hour or so 'explore'.
