Hi,
put a new chain, cassette and chain ring on, riding 1 x9.
the chain skips and it drove me mad yesterday!

the mech andjockey wheels are old, though got good teeth on them. the set up ran perfectly prior to this. i also re set the cable.

any thoughts?

It's usually old cassettes that do that.

Maybe you've got the wrong sized chain on?

Stiff chain link?

But personally I skip with a rope 😉

a rope may do a better job....

done the links, i thought about the chain, so checked out a new 9 speed against this one and it looks like its exactly the same, width, length and model number on the chains.

i am going to the shed to check it out again and will report back

I had exactley the same problem, and changed chain, chain ring, cassette etc and still had the problem, until I changed the shifter - it has run great ever since!I since found that the adjuster on the shifter had worn and I could never keep the cable tight enough, it might be worth a look at.

Is the large cog on the cassette the same size as the old one?

if it's not chain rings, cassette or chain, then it could be a slightly bent gear hanger. That's caused me a skipping chain in the past. Have a good look at the alignment.

may have to be a new mech!
