Anyone know of any in 28-32mm size?

Something like the Challenge Strada Bianca, but not a tub and not £50 a pop.

Panaracer pasela - I ran a 28mm set on my commuter and they were good tyres. Going cheap at CRC:

There's an open tub version available. They're rather good!

Paselas look a good budget option though.

Pasela +1. Great tyre. Don't let the price put you off

Yup, great tyre.

You used to be able to get the T-Serv in skinwall.
Even tougher and lasts for ever.

Should add that I used them for a LEJOG, no punctures.

Cheers, even the tread on the panaracers looks a bit retro!

Unfortunately now the choice is:

£20 - wire bead
£35 - folding
or for the same difference again....... the challenge (maybe better, maybe not, but reassuringly expensive!)

Folding will be a bit lighter but they're pretty light anyway. I wouldn't bother. I've used Pasela's for years (~25?) and only recently thought to try Marathon Supreme's - just for a change. Still have Pasela's on the main tandem.

They won't stand up to improper abuse though. I wrecked a pair fully loaded offroading on some horrible rocky shite in Kielder Forest recently. Not the tyres fault, wrong tool for the job.

I've got a pair of practically unused skin wall paselas in the garage if you're interested o.p.

Can't remember what size they are off hand but I'll dig em out if you are.
