Further to 9 speed chain dropping issues in this thread https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/upper-chain-guide-for-1x-9/ where I was recommended an excellent upper guide for 6 quid.
I would like to augment this with an NW Oval chainring. 11 Year old daughter has been reading about this and super keen.
Seeing as this is the kids bike and post xmas I am on super skinflint mode eg its her pocket money.
Best I have found in stock is this https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/blackspire-snaggletooth-narrow-wide-oval-chainring/rp-prod144531?mx=a
Gold 104bcd, 30T Oval.

We don't care about colour, but £31.04 is a lot... Anything cheeper?

You can get them for about 7 quid on eBay and they work just fine.
No better or worse than superstar.

Does it need to be oval? I had a nw oval Superstar ring in my old bike and it was a little noisy and in mud it didn’t retain the ring well at all. I didn’t have a top Guide at the time though. I’ve since stuck with round rings. All mine have been steel sram x sync ones - they are cheap as chips and last almost forever. I’m not sure if they do one in 104bcd though / compatible with 9/10 speed.

Just a thought - can you get an oval 30t chainring in 104bcd? Most I can find are 32t smallest.

For a kids bike, again I’d be tempted to try something from eBay.

If you want an oval 30t then Works Components do one.
If you just want a 30t then the £5 ones on AliExpress work quite well - got them on the kids bikes.

For 32t oval you need spacerage, which is built in to the Blackspire Snaggletooth rings, for 30t oval you need trick bolts. It is explained sort of on the Blackspire page:
https://www.blackspire.com/product/snaggletooth-oval-chainring-104bcd/
You see they have to machine the 32 and 30 t ones out of thicker plate to include built-in spacing, and the 30t one needs a special bolt and custom nut arrangement. One-up do the same.
That is excellent value for the 30t considering all the machining that has to go on.

Other option is pick up some NX or GX cranks and get a direct mount oval 30T.
