I'd love to have an MTB Skills subforum. I'm picturing different threads for different skills, eg cornering, jumping etc.

People could share tips, videos with analysis of what's good and bad, or just celebrate a particularly good ride.

I'd like something like that in the magazine too, obviously somehow staying within the current style and aesthetic.

Any thoughts?

sub-forum, nah

however if you want to start a specific thread to deal with any of those specific skills you will get plenty of advice, which in my opinion is usually correct in the mind of the poster, but the way someone else interprets those words..... well...

eg. Cornering, to counter steer or not?

you will likely get pointers to useful resources such as youtube vids and coaching options

It’s nice to have some threads about it. But it’s REALLY hard to talk about skills accurately - and most great riders don’t seem to be able to explain what they do.

I think this video is particularly good from a body positioning point of view.

Got to be shed loads on YouTube.

Just subscribe to GMBN as they tell you how to do the same things pretty much on a 2 month rotation

It does show it really well - how centred he is but then how he gets back to flatten one drop or how he gets back when he has to go super slow. I can’t imagine how steep that is in real life, I would die!

There’s a debate about the forum at the moment. But it really doesn’t need sub forums

I’ve been trying to learn to manual for ages now and just keep spannering myself. Watched a load of videos and read tonnes of articles. Think I need to actually learn from someone so saving for a skills course is probably best.

A manuals thread with the STW Massive contributing tips, favourite videos, and personal progress reports would be great for me.

I know there are plenty of videos out there, but recommendation on the ones to watch (and the ones to avoid) would be helpful.

Just start a wheelie thread or a manual thread and post your progress regularly.

I'll tell you this from experience though... No amount of videos or reading forum posts will help you learn anything beyond picking up a few pointers.

It takes hours and hours of actually trying to accomplish it. So find yourself a nice empty car park and start trying to clear multiple parking spaces as it's an easy way to measure your progress.

This. All that happens if there’s a load of sub forums is that things don’t get seen and the sub forums end up really quiet.

Realistically, I think you'd get more success with sub-forums for posting pet videos, dealing with arthritis, shopping for used cars, etc. Would be nice to have a bacon forum and a vegan forum though so we can talk about food without the two sides having to constantly trip over each other.
