Hi Guys,

Looking for a skills coaching course to buy my mate for his birthday. We are midlands based and so nothing too far away ideally. Budget of up to £60, would be good if we could get me and him on it? I have seen FOD do an hour session for £30, anyone ever done this? What else is about?

Cheers

I did the 'jumps & drops' course at FoD and wasn't overly impressed with it.

If you can go to FOD you could try Katy Curd for a session for the 2 of you. I had a 1 to 1 coaching session with her for 3 hours in December and it was awesome and really helped.

I think I paid about £100 for 3 hours so maybe you could see if she’ll do some kind of deal for a shorter session for the pair of you.

I'll echo both of the above.

Have heard that WyeMTB coaching is decent too. Think they are now involved in the pedalabikeaway sessions since I did a course there.

I'll be going back to Katy though.

I've got a skills course booked at the end of April for me and the wife, with Ally @ Campbell coaching based at Afan.
Really good reviews and very reasonable prices, I'm really looking forward to it

How far are you from Chicksands?

I really enjoyed my sessions with Tom Dowy and can recommend him and I believe you can book in increments of 1 hour up to your budget / fitness levels.

I've had skills courses with Tony (aka Jedi), Tom Dowie and Katie Curd.

All good. I have re-booked with Katie as I found her the best. She is based in the FoD.

I did a skill session with an outfit based at Cannock a few years ago and it was excellent...I think the chap was called Adam, so not sure if he's still doing it. I've done a Jedi course too, but he's much further away and it was a full days coaching vs. a couple of hours. To be honest a full day with Jedi was a bit much, coaching is fairly intense and takes it out of you mentally and physically, so after a few hours you're mentally and physically fatigued so not really in peak condition to be being effectively coached or taught anything. The course I did at Cannock was a few hours which is just about as much as you need in one session, and gives you some time to have a go after the session to put into practice what you've learned while its fresh in your mind and muscle memory. Once I had done my Jedi course it was a good week before I hit the trails again and by then i'd lost the feel I'd gained during the course and struggled to replicate a lot of what I was taught.

Can't recommend Aline in Sheffield highly enough. I've done the first two levels, foundation and flow. Both amazing days on the bike, really well planned coaching.  Will definitely be doing more with them.
