Looking at the Planet X XLS. Specs for it are below. I'm 6ft tall with inside leg 33.5. my arm span Is 75 inch. I think I'm at the top end of the 54 cm frame and bottom of the 57 frame. The bike will be used for a daily commuter and for cyclo-cross or off road trails at the weekend. I've only ever had mountain bikes in the past and ride a medium giant xtc . I like being able to throw the medium frame around so the 54 planet X appeals but am I way too big for it and should go for the 57. Any help and advice would be brilliant. Cheers

I'm also 6ft tall and I ride a large XLS (57). I'm certain the 54 would have been too small for me.
The bike is great by the way - but you probably should be prepared to upgrade the wheels fairly quickly - they weigh a ton and I trashed the freehub inside 500 miles (as did a mate who bought an XLS at same time).

Cheers for that. Do you race it, and or run it off road much? How's it handle? What size stem you running? The spec for the money looks really good.

I bought it on a whim a couple of years ago (just after my mate had bought one!). Same price/spec as the one you linked (£999).
I thought the spec was/is excellent for money. I run a 100mm long stem and I also put on a set of Ritchey flared bars (only a slight flare) because I tend to ride on the drops given half a chance. I also swapped the tyres for a cheap set of folding Ritchey Excavaders I picked up on eBay.

I live in the north lakes and tend to use it for rides from my door up into Whinlatter/Ennerdale/corpse roads round Loweswater etc so a mix of on/off road.
I think it handles really well - it'll be 'twitchier' than than your xtc though!

For me it's a bit like going back to when I started mountain biking in the 90's with a rigid bike - it puts a smile on my face when I ride it 🙂 And its easier to clean than my Turner...
