Are the Sixth element wheels on hope hubs worth £400 more than ARC30 rims on ole hubs?

Better in a a more durable, more direct, stiffer manner? As a set for general riding in the Lakes, plus BPW, Trail centres etc.

IME arcs are rubbish if there are rocks where you ride! Which it sounds like it is.

No idea on the carbon though!

I'm 60kg, and have broken 3 arc27 rims. I know others have had better experiences than I have, but personally I would look at alternatives.

I’m 100kg. Didn’t break my ARC27 rims. Tried hard though....

Yeah, beaten my current ARC’s and they’ve been great. But I know people who have destroyed them.

I'm just over 60kg. My ARC30S aren't going to last much longer. They don't like rocks.

Why just the Eastons? Much better choices in alloy out there IMHO.

DT Swiss.  That’s what I’m rebuilding my wheels with once the Hope rims give up.

Had a set on a previous build, EX 471. Lovely rims.

depends what tyre pressures people are running and how hard they ride.  just because one person destroys a rim doesn't mean someone else will.  if you like to run low pressures and ride in rocky trails then look for something tougher and use an insert.

My ARC’s have held up just fine (one ding in the rear which I’ve not done owt about yet as it holds air fine). However, I’d buy DT EX511’s now. I run them on my DH bike and they’re standing up really well.

I am tempted by some Blue Flow rims to replace the ARC’s for the trail bike though.

I find I have to ride around 30psi in my tyres otherwise I destroy tyres, I’m not a heavy rider. Had a pair of arcs and I’ve never known rims bend as easily.

using DT EX511s now, really nice rims and so far so good but there’s plenty to choose from stans mavic spank etc

if I was buying carbon I’d probably buy the Santa Cruz rims just because the no questions warranty.

93kg's in my birthday suit on Arc 30's and they're fine on rock gardens and there are some pretty gnarly ones on my local natural trails. I'm not dainty by any stretch. They're as true as the day I bought them and handle anything I can throw at them. Survived a day at Antur Stiniog and if that place is not a good test for rims I'm not sure what it.

Mate pringled his DT EX511's during an altercation with a tree stump (would have knackered any rim) and got a set of Spanks which were great, he's now running Hope rims, which seem to be holding up equally as well.

But like Boxxer - if I were considering MTB carbon rims I'd go SC for the warranty as my philosophy is don't ride what you can't afford to break and everyone I know with carbon components on their MTB's has eventually broken them - frames, handlebars, wheels. Of course they've broken metal bits too, but they're ALOT cheaper to replace.
