You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi, has anyone done this? Thinking of giving it a go next spring. Fly to Marseille and train up to Sisteron. It is suggested as a 6 day trip with days varying from 35-65km on fairly hilly terrain. I have done things like the Tour Mont Blanc and Cairngorms loops in the past and interested to know how it compares. Any advice gratefully received
I am also interested, want to do this or the GR5 in the same area next year.
Any help from the evening crowd?
Keeping the thread alive.
on Youtube there is a vid of some french guys who did Sisterone to Nice in 5 days. They were travelling lightish though and staying in hotels I think.
The Moveyouralps site has a lot of info but I am not sure the riding times are accurate.
Yeah, I had a good look through the Moveyouralps website. I was a little worried about their timings. 65km and 35km seem to take 7 hrs with pro rata climbing. Good site though. Thought we would fly to Marseille, train to Sisteron, cycle to Nice and train back to Marseille. Need to work out where to leave bike bags. Planning on travelling light and using guest houses etc.
I am planning something similar, but flying to/from nice and bivvying
Will probably pack the bike in a cardboard box to travel out & maybe scrounge the same from a bike shop for the return.
If you have a look through my website i've posted plenty up about the GR5 if that is any help to you. I've still got the last two days to write up actually, but i've just been very lazy and not done it yet.. maybe i'll do it next week! The 2nd last day (part of the area you're looking) was the best as well!
Hi Anus, I have been following your write ups. It looks a great trip with some impressive tracks. I think we are a little further West and hopefully less full-on descents,I think it was day 6 in particular that looked a little testing. From your experience of riding in that area do you think the times for the days on Moveyouralps sound realistic? We are reasonably fit but not racers.
How do you manage to get to the start and the end of your ride?
Hi anus, been reading your blog too. looking forward to the conclusion. Would like to ask how much time each day you spent in motion.
Hey, didn't see the replies to this! maybe it is too late and you'll never see this again buuuut...
I just had a look on the moveyouralps site and I would say the times are quite correct if you are the faffy type, otherwise you'll move a bit quicker than that if you're efficient (just checked some of the stuff around Grenoble where I used to live and had a decent idea of the trail type).
When we did the GR5 we just got the train from Nice to Briançon, then rode back to Nice, dead easy with bikes on the train but I think we had to book and pay for them :(.
Tonto - we were pretty lazy in the morning and often wouldn't get riding until 11am or so, then we would ride until probably around 6-7pm, maybe a little later. We had a lunch stop and a decent coffee and cake stop each day too so we weren't exactly in a hurry!
I'm getting around to posting the last days of my trip! Maybe in the next couple of weeks! I've moved to Norway now and already building up loads of cool articles and videos to post!
Thanks for the info. Good news that you think the times are realistic. I need to see how I recover from a fracture but all being good still hoping to give it a shot late spring.
