The "Peck Farm" Climb....... er, tricky!

I'm not sure when STW did the route, but since we had this winters heavy rain, it's gone from difficult to frankly, for me at least, impossible!

STW said "Each bit was just about rideable, but to string these bits into a successful whole would mean you were having a very good day indeed"

You're not kidding^^^^^ 😉

Choose between foot tall rock steps, in waves, or bashing around in baseless 6" round rocks and pebbles and roots. The choice is yours!

But, i loved it, and for the record, i reckon i pushed maybe only 10-15%% of it 😉 (but i am by no means Fanny MacCrashSkill on a bike........)

Oh, and "Hello" to the guy i met coming the other way "doing the STW route" but a bit more lost than me 😉

What Yunki said.

Dartmoor can be frustrating but when it's good...oh God it's good.

Tis a good un, thats for sure. It also leads to even better.

However, time for a 'I have cleaned it' love in:

Got it only once, but thats from the gate at the farm to the top of the nutcracker, including the naggery 90deg step thingny 1/2 way up the 2nd half.

Always wondered how many people have cleaned that one.

Justifiable reason to walk for a wee bit.

Wow, good effort! I actually neatly got up that^^^ step, but was soo knackered in the process i got pinballed by a tiny rock about 2 yards later and ended up in a bush! 😉

The winter wet looks to actually have made the nut cracker descent a bit easier as it seems to have filled in a few of the deeper holes on the drop side of the rocks, and it was an easy clear today on the way down!

Glad I wasn't the only one to struggle up there! Was already knackered by the time I'd got to it but I still don't think I'd have cleaned it with brand new legs.

I made it up that climb cleanly a couple of sundays back - was surprised how well the alpine 160 climbed to be honest, was deffo glad of it for the way back down, love that part of Dartmoor, even the descent from water down to the bridge wasn't as wet as usual! I'm now stuck in the desert for a few months and have just my memories of my last ride on dry, fast, awesome Dartmoor trails on a sunny Sunday in April. Roll on summer 8)

That's my local loop and I ride it a fair bit. Have to admit that I've only cleaned that climb once, after a bone dry spell.

Even if I make it up the first rocky bit, most times I end up fouling the cranks in the top section on that step thingy.

Admittedly I'm on a rigid 29er which possibly isn't the most suitable tool for the job, but I still love it.

Bottom part of the nutcracker often catches me out sometimes too.

I don't let it bother me - a bit of a push sometimes is all part of the fun and give you the chance to enjoy the view.
