i have a very simple question which im sure will have many right answers
does anyone have any advice on which Singlespeed 29er frame i should get...
i really like the look of the Genesis MTB and the cotic simple.
im not keen on the surly karate monkey (with its strange curvy seat tube) or the on one frames
i like simple plain looking steel frames. no over design.
also, a frame that could use rigid or suspension forks

GT Peace is a good if you can find a second hand one.
I currently ride a Gary Fisher rig which is silly light but I preferred the Peace.

I have the Genesis Fortitude SS, it's a lot of fun on local trails, don't think it's designed to be able to swap to a suspension fork though. It's also way over-priced for what you get (I got it on C2W though so comes down to a sensible price).

A normal El Mariachi will do ss without a tensioner, still got a mech hanger but the swingy dropouts work a treat

@ sam: My bad. Thought I read about the EBB on the Singular webpage, but using your link, I was clearly wrong. What kind of discount for frame & fork? Looking at running it with an Alfine hub.

On-one were doing pretty good discount on those frames a while ago (I know as I've just bought one as my first foray into 29er)... At less than £100 it was worth a punt.

Not built yet. Old 26 hubs (and Alfine which was on another inbred) now being rebuilt onto 29er rims
@RRD: What rims you gonna use for the Alfine?
Would be a Swift for me, sorta planning one for the winter if I can get rid of my Anthem.

EBB all the way. Niner SIR9 is ace, but pricey. Rides beautifully with the steel Niner fork.
That orange Salsa up there, is just gorgeous.
Track ends are just fine with a bolt-up rear hub. QR a bit fiddly...

Geometry, innit. The Genesis Fortitude is built around a short, rigid fork. You could put a sus fork on but it would have a longer A-C length which would raise and slacken the front more than the designer intended.
ok so it 'can' but might handle rubbish - except my Soul for instance is ridden happily by people with over a 40mm range of sus travel.
