Just building a ss cx bike. Used an eccentric bb. So can I remove the rear mech hanger or does the wheels quick release need the width of the hanger to tighten up properly?

135mm qr rear end with a replaceable hanger?

It might work but the full thickness might be needed.

Possibly, but I dont think any of my bikes would allow it, the 9/10mm part of the QR axle is a defined length so that it doesnt extend past the dropout.

If you just want a minimalist look take a hacksaw to it. Or just paint it with a sharpie so its not silver.

all the replacable mech hangers I can think of are part of the drop out too. As spoony says, cut if off it you want and file it to a nice shape, it'll be softish alloy.

Various Rear Gear Mech Derailleur Hanger Drop out as listed in description 1-27

What if you want to stick gears on it in the future?

Don't hack saw it off just leave it on.
My one criticism of my ebb singlespeed is no gear hanger for the versatility.

What if you want to stick gears on it in the future?

Why would you want to add back the other 11 wrong gears?

Hacksaw it off and file/shape to suit AND spunk out another tenner to have a spare in case you want to go back.

reverse psychology it. If you leave the hanger bit on, you'll never need it. If you take it off you'll spend all your life wishing you had extra gears.

(I usually charge £30 for a 30 minute session of advice like that but you can have it for free. I'll also throw in 'Toughen up, Princess' as it's singlespeed appropriate)

Valid approach.

I thought mech hangers were a mount for a rear light. 🙂

I left the mech hanger on to add a bit of ballast, the bike is so light it will blow away otherwise.
