Looking at options. My pompetamine is in need of a serious overhall. Seatpost is stuck for a start but the brakes and wheels and drive chain all need replacing.
It might be a better option just to start over but there seem to be limited options.
Ideally I'd like a frame and then the option to build as I like but would consider a full bike. Can't find as much, it seems SS is out of fashion at the cheap end. Ideally looking to spend less than £750.
Genesis day one, charge plug but not a lot else. Anything people can recommend?
I'm wondering about this myself, I want to upgrade/replace my Pompino. Looking for something with disc brakes and fixed gear.
That Pinnacle looks not bad, but seems its a freewheel hub. So would need to replace the whole wheel to go fixed. And not sure how much tyre clearance with mudguards.
The Genesis Day One is probably the best option I've seen.
I've been considering this myself but would struggle to justify this or an existing bike. But the commute has become "too easy" - at least, I just take it easy, so the issue needs to be forced. Pinnacle ticks every box, including the black one...
Craig if you bought the pinnacle and don't mind ditching the rear brake (you have front anyway plus your legs) you can run a velosolo six bolt mount fixed cog on the disc mount and have a flipflop fixed /ss option on the stock wheel. I ran one on my pomp and cross-check I may even have a brand new 18t in a box somewhere 😉
I got my Charge Plug Ginduro!!!! (I think it has approx eleventy-thousand Grinduro and exclamation marks on the frame) for a song in the US - $599 about a year ago. Hydraulic discs, OK-ish wheels, WTB Nano tires, an EBB... Really the only particularly crappy piece of kit on it is the cranks, which are made of tofu - I’ve already replaced the left crank arm with something found in the back of the bike shop for a tenner. OK - and the matt purple paint job and stickers are a bit OTT.
Price was right for a commuter - if it gets stolen I’ll be annoyed but not gutted. In the meantime I’ve done some fairly serious riding on it inlcluding a few “gravel grinders” and an on-road imperial century just yesterday. All in all - I’d say why look further? Upgrade with decent components as needed.
All City Nature Boy. They do an 853 version of it too.
Love my Day One. If you are not in a massive hurry, the 853 frames do come up on eBay. The quality of the components seems to have reduced in the last few years, so maybe a second hand Decade special edition would fit the bill.
This thread just prompted me to have an eBay trawl. There's a lovely looking Kona Paddy Wagon in Weston Super Mare on for £185! If I lived closer....

Pinnacle did do an arkose SS last year but that's vanished from the range, what they do still have is an alfine version with an EBB.
Or better yet the frameset:

That Arkose looks neat.
Anyone managed to get a 2" slick into one? - presumably the tyre fit is allowing for lugged tyres.
Shame On-One haven't developed the Pompino and Pompetamine to allow for a 2" tyre - they're great gravel bikes.
Says it'll take 45mm tyres (with guards?) not sure about 2" slicks...
That Charge Plug Ginduro looks like the ideal replacement for my sadly retired Pompino ( crack in the chainstay ) though a quick Google it seems as if they are no longer made 🙁
Surly?
I basically run my Karate Monkey this way. It's got CX tyres here but it'd take huge slicks too

Any frame will do ss, just pop a tensioner where the mech would go, I do on my ss and think it's much better, no faffing with chain lengths and things if I want to change gear and opens up a much, much wider frame choice.

There was one in the classifieds a couple of days ago.
I love mine, such an ace bike!
