Does anyone know if this combination exists? either frame builder or complete bike - or frame with the capability to switch. I know Santa Cruz has the chameleon but looking for something a bit more road orientated.

My On-One Pompetamine is so equipped. The only thing to watch out for is having some means of adjusting the position of the rear caliper when you adjust the rear wheel for chain tension.

Look for a frame with an Eccentric Bottom Bracket (EBB), then you don't have to worry about adjustable disc brake mounts and generally you have the choice of running single speed or geared.

My Dialled Bikes Love/Hate has an EBB and it's a cracking little frame.

Second that. Removes the occasional faff of having to adjust the brake position when you adjust chain tension (track ends), and less likely to creep than sliders, although that isn't such a problem on recent ones.

Some  other EBB bikes are Singular, also Cube Hooper & Hyde.

You can get EBB inserts for big BB shells like PF30, which opens up some options. Or there’s the Surly Straggler or a couple of other American options like All-City.

A Trek checkpoint would be able to run single speed it's already disc and is road orientated. You would also have gears to be able to put back on should you wish. I have one although I run it geared and I love it.

My bizango has sliding dropouts, the brake mount is on the dropout so no need to worry about adjusting the brake

Pinnacle Arkose of old had a SS disc option IIRC
The Alfine option has an EBB so is SS'able as well.

I have 2 Cannondales with EBBs. Not good at all. Take em out and either replace with a better one or keep them clean regularly and grease the non bearing surfaces.
But EBB is the way forward.

either frame builder

Any frame builder will be able to build you a frame with rockers/sliders or EBB shell.

Proper Paragons or 2 Soul Cycles sliders and rockers combine axle and caliper adaptor so no issues with alignment.

On the other hand track end sliding mounting points for caliper are not that bad. Used to run Inbred Slot-Dropouts, that were virtually track ends with gear hanger, and didn't have much issue with caliper adjustment. Unless you are serial gear ratio swapper chain adjustments are so minuscule that it is hardly affecting caliper position.
Personally I was re-adjusting caliper only whilst changing whole worn down drivetrain.
Cheers!
I.

Tried a couple of different expanding wedge type eccentrics and never had much luck - they either slipped / rounded the special tiny wedge hex head / creaked (Carver bikes Bushnell copy) or stuck (Cannondale tandem).

Got a Bianchi SISS 16 years ago which had track style dropouts with a clever angled slot design - compared to parallel slots you get approx 2:1 wheel movement to disc slot length. Photos below show my disc mount jig in full forward / backward position.

The third photo is my latest dropout design with 9mm long disc slots allowing 17mm of wheel adjustment. Hope hub with M10 axle bolts - remove bolts and wheel just drops straight in / out.

A framebuilder with some brains could make you some like this - only costs £20 to get some laser / hi-def plasma / water jet cut from a basic CAD file.

Personally, I'd rather (rarely as there is a fairly wide tolerance on caliper position) adjust the caliper than adjust the position of my feet relative to the bars and saddle.

Pinnacle Dolomite is another option. Uses an EBB.

Maybe a bit more complicated if you want fixed gear and discs. Not sure if any of these bikes use a hub with a a screw-on cog? You can get a fixed disc hub from Surly, but it gets more expensive if you have to replace the wheel.

Novatec do a 120mm fixed disk hub.

But I suspect most disk frames probably take a 135mm hub for convenience.

Thanks but not my original idea 🙂

I've always assumed it was Sky Yaeger's idea, and I'll always be grateful that she helped me source that bike which was a US only product.

https://www.welovecycling.com/wide/2017/05/29/meet-sky-yaeger-woman-behind-hundreds-legendary-bicycle-designs/

Since then I've ripped variants of the design off a number of times!

EBBs are great for using with regular qr hubs etc, but I just personally prefer this option for my set up.

Kona Unit is Singlespeed with disc (slider drop outs)

Unless it's a genuine Bushnell EBB then they are pretty crap.

I’ve had a Niner Biocentric 30 bottom bracket on my Niner RLT9 (PF30) for over 4 years running an Alfine without problems.

The On One Inbred used to be available with sliding drop outs and disc mounts.

29er as well, so easily changeable to a road set up.

They occasionally pop up on eBay and the classifieds.

Slot dropout inbred. I’ve got one in the shed built up this way.

Not sure I'd agree with that. The Phil Woods EBB on my Love/Hate has been faultless.

Similarly I never had to adjust the rear caliper on my sliding dropout cotic simple in the last 5 years.

I have/had a hardtail converted with an eccentric hub, a Day One (track ends) and a gravel frame with sliding dropouts. Setting up caliper position is not difficult on any of them so I wouldn't worry about that side of things. Easiest on the sliding dropout because the caliper is mounted to it, plus once set up the wheel can just be dropped in and out.

Don't know what this is but it has been flawless. 4 bolts to lock in place and a couple of decent holes for the pin spanner.

Singular swift, not quite the road bike your looking for, and not sure if the cross-bikes do a EBB.

Transition Rapture has adjustable/swinging dropouts for single speed or geared. Coincidentally like the one I'm selling 😬
