Just building up a Genesis IO, and using an xt Chainset. The Genesis IO has a 68mm Bottom bracket I believe, so have put two spacers on the drive side and one on the non-drive side as you would do for a geared setup.
Have put the Surly chainring 32 on the chainset and attached it to where the big ring would normally attach, as that looks neatest.
Put the 16 cog on the back and where the small cog would normally go the chainline looks out, as in the cog is too far inwards compared to the 32 chainring.
Whats is best to adjust? The bottom bracket spacers to bring the chainring inwards? Move the 32 Chainring on the chainset? The small cog at the moment is virtually as far outwards as it can be I think, so not sure I can do anything with that. Any help would be much appreciated.
I tend to put the front ring in the middle position, if that helps.

Move one of the bb spacers to the non drive side if it doesn't cause ring/frame issues (outer position suspect wont). If its out by a bit it doesn't matter - try and see. If out by a lot then what the hive said - move ring to middle.
Wouldn't recommend moving BB spacers - means each foot is inequal distance from the centre line of the bike.
Does that make a difference on a ss?
This could be complete rubbish, but iirc if your frame is symmetric in terms of distances, then i think that the center of the rear cog should be 12-13mm from the inside edge of the dropout/end of the axle if using the outside chainring.
