Does anyone have any idea if I can use a ramped chainring on my single speed fixie? The one that came with the bike is too big but a non-ramped replacement is stupidly expensive.
Yes, just make sure the chain line is good.
As long as your chain line is spot on and you have good chain tension I don't think it would be a problem
Thank you.
Still not ideal though. Ramped chainrings are designed to so that the chain derails easily, which is not something you want on fixed. Cheap track rings aren't hard to find.
Any suggestions on where I could find one for under £20?
On one always seem to have cheap steel chain rings.
Try Velosolo.
Guessing it's 110bcd after your wanted ad, so this will do the job very nicely
Yes u can mines ramped iv been using it for about two year and never lost the chain. So i think it will be ok.
Bottom of this page may have what you're after...

Charlie the bike monger has got some discounted Hope items on his website.
Surly last well, but the aforementioned On-One SS ring is all but identical at half the price.
Ramped are ok, & the steel Deore middle ring lasts ages. The teeth are shorter, but for SS generally fine. I ran one for a couple of years.
Loads of new & used SS chain rings on ebay.
Just do a search:-
Middleburn
Goldtec
e13
Hope
Raceface
FSA
Gamut
I managed to get a unused Gamut one for less than £10 posted a month ago.
I've got a 32t one you can have for a tenner posted
104bcd tho ( 4- bolt)
Got one of these on my SS. Does the job nicely if you have Shimano cranks.
+1 ^^ used on rf cranks
