Hey,

Has anyone seen any of these cheap anywhere?

Yes, I know they are awful but me and the wife are going to share a bike for kiddie trailer towing.

I think I had some and gave them away, does anyone have a pair lying around?

Cheers,

Mick

Cheapest way is prob to get a pair of those plastic inserts you get on new bikes.

Had some Shimano A530's on my touring bike - actually not too bad. Ride clipped for the long distance side of touring, and surprisingly good flat side for the sightseeing/bimbling/going out for food/drinks in civvies side of touring. I say "had" as they've migrated to one of my girlfriend's bikes whilst she gives spd's a go (she can ride with one foot clipped in, other foot unclipped).

Touring bike therefore is currently running as set of M520's with PD22 clip-in reflectors/flats on one side. Not fantastic as flats, but better than trying to pedal on spds in non-spd shoes

The XT touring ones are actually pretty good as a flat. Not a cheap option though.

I have a few pairs. One pair on the recumbent trike so others can have a go. I learned off road on them. Unclip when it looks a bit technical. Gradually I swapped more to full time spd. Now run double sided XT instead.

The seals seam very robust. Mine have been given a very hard time and never let me down. The last pair were used by a novice rider for Ride London. I even lent her the shoes.

Thoroughly recommended pedals.

A530s are a terrible pedal in the wet, my feet slide straight off the flat side.

The xt t8000 are much better with good level of grip from a few pins. The relatively new eh500, an update of the a530 with added pins, looks a good option too.

M324 would be a decent choice too.

They aren't awful, they fill a useful niche. My commuter bike had to double up as a training bike, they were perfect on that. Not sure what model, but they were the ones that are a standard old style cage pedal on one side. Pretty good really.
