possibly after moon on a stick... I’m building a new drop bar bike for these uses:

ultra distance soft Xc/gravel

road (Cornish tarmac, ie Terrible surface) and green lane rides

a bit of blue/red run blasting

rides with my 4 yr old ( inc tag along action)

trailer towing with our tiny one

etc etc, you get the picture...

i don’t want to keep swapping pedals and often will just want to jump on it for family duties etc

i don’t know much about hybrid pedals, so after some real world experience and advice

spd one side, good platform the other, lightweight, compact, well made!!!

any suggestions?

cheers

XT trekking T8000 pedals pedals. Recently got a set of these for our cargo bike. I was surprised by how good the platform side was as historically the available choices have been rubbish. Even using an SPD show on the platform is fine as there is enough clearance to stop the cleat causing the shoe to slide.

Thanks for the replies, the Funn and the XT ones look perfect!

i toyed with getting a pair of Ritchey trail spds, I’ve had them before, but really they are useless with trainers.

Much appreciated all

Wow! They seem rather good value, might have a punt on the top ones!

Sarawak, that's not a proper platform though. It's support for you spd shoe while clipped in. OP is talking about pedals with a proper flat on one side.

Shimano PD-EH500 are good. They are what I have put on my Diverge so it can be used for cycling in trainers to the gym, around town, pub etc. And also for road rides in SPDs.

I’ve got M324s on my cross bike and the tandem; my wife uses the Click'r 421s, which are more or less equivalent. I did try a pair of Decathlon equivalents, but they were much stiffer and and squeaked almost immediately I fitted them, so I went back to Shimano.

I’m not inclined to change from these as they meet my wants, and I’ve been using them since the '90s.

My standard Shimano SPD's came with the plastic adapters to clip-in on one side and this transformed one side of the pedals into normal-shoes-friendly platform. They worked well for me for family rides. But then I lost them...

So if anyone has an unnecessary pair.... 😉
