I have noticed that Absolute Black and somebody else I can't remember are doing narrow/wide rings that fit in the inner, granny position on cranks for smaller sizes,28,30 teeth. What difference would this make to a usable chain line?
Surely this would really stress the chain to bend from the inner ring to the 11 cog in the cassette? Or are modern chains comfortable with that combination which presumably you would need more often with a small front ring? Would the bending chain foul a bash ring if you decided to go for one?
Come on! Five minutes ago everybody had an opinion about narrow/wide chain rings, surely somebody must have looked into chainline issues?
it would make the chainline crap but it would allow unfit folk to follow the magazine trends for 1x10 without having to run a 32 or buying new cranks
^^ seems about the size of it!
Some folk are doing offset 104mm BCD 30t rings, no idea about 28s.
Sounds a bit rubbish to me. Unless for trials use.
Either run a double or man up.
There you go - you wanted an opinion.
RaceFace do a 30T on a 104BCD to fit in the normal position.
I think manning up is about 35 years too late for me so probably double will be the way to go. I only wanted to get rid of an extra source of potential mechanical nuisance on long rides but I think in my situation the advantages don't outweigh the disadvantages and I must learn to love the front derailleur.
or get a Hope t-rex 40t rear?
