Right or left?

I figure the former, as it creates space between cyclist and car, but I seem to be in the minority.

I always used the right side when I did it - same reason as you

Whichever side is nearest me when I put it on the bike

I guess your's doesn't have those clips that you bolt into place that make switching sides at random somewhat difficult.

I go drive side to add some protection to the mechs.
I've no idea if it helps though 😆

Many bags have a reflective print/patch. For the above reasons, and this one, I'd be (and do) using it on the right side in the UK to increase the apparent width of the bike and offer some 'protection'.

Also, if you're right handed it's probably also easier to whip the bottle of scotch out of it while moving 😉

Mine usually ended up on the left (it was a Blackburn with QR clips), simply because that was the accessible side where my bike was in my front room. No other thought went into it. So glad I don't have to use the horrible thing anymore!

Mine goes left as the right hand seat stay is festooned with lights.

I tend to go right, but I'd rather use two half full panniers for balance.

Right for me, partially to add protection to the mechs, partially because I find it easier to judge the width on that side.

I go right for reasons as above. I've considered moving to the NDS so that I can use a fibre flare on the DS seat stay, but never did.

Right side here as well.

Gosh, I thought it was only me put it on the right - two reasons, the first being for making the bike look wider to drivers and secondly, cos I'm a naughty girl and get off on the right hand side, so it's easily gettatable.

Another righty here, similar reasons to others.

Depends which pannier I picked up

Rarely ride with one pannier, but if I have to drop one of my side pockets to make it big (and a bit like a pannier) on my rack pack then it's the right side always, similar to above

Always drive side to look wider to passing traffic. Mine's a QL3 Ortlieb that mounts to stubs mounted on the rack, so it only fits to one side of the trike rack. But it will mount to either side of the QL3-specific mini-rack.
