As the title says, for general singletrack & occasional events...
Bump?
How about an Giant Anthem X?
I have had an EX8 for about 18 months and love it to bits, great on Singletrack. No experience of Specialized I'm afraid though.
I'd rather it was a bit slacker for Trail centre work. Considered and Anthem with a 120 fork, but really want 120 at the back end....
Fair enough, but I used to ride 130mm and just got the Anthem, and realy find that it gives a better plusher ride than the previous 130mm. I'd certainly test ride an Anthem if you havent?
I appreciate the slack angled suggestion but IMO that really only helps on DH stuff, I've found it refreshing getting back on a bike with slightly steep head angle which makes the bike very flickable on singletrack/trail centre stuff.
I've not ridden the Camber, but I test rode the EX9 against a Stumpjumper FSR Expert when trying to decide on a new bike.
The EX9 felt horrible compared to the FSR - suspension didn't feel as able to cope with the terrain, it felt too long for me (shorter stem perhaps would have helped) & it didn't seem to have as much front end grip.
The FSR was just jump on & ride and it felt great, whereas we spent quite a while fiddling with the set-up on the EX9 and never really got it sorted out.
If the Camber is like a short-travel Stumpjumper, I reckon it would be a good trail bike.
To be honest, if the Camber had been around when I replaced my bike, I probably would have gone for that over the Stumpjumper.
Within our riding group a couple have Fuel Ex9s (myself included) and one a Fuel Ex8. Also a couple of guys have Camber Pros.
I love my Fuel Ex9 (2010) and it hasn't put a foot wrong in the year I've had it. The others seem really happy with theirs as well.
The guys with the Cambers love the bikes but one guy has sent it back three times with bottom brackets going after 100 miles and has now gone up to a Stumpy. The other guy hasn't had it long and has had a chain snap.
