Can I buy any old 26mm hex socket to use for adding tokens (Fox 32 SC)?  Or is there some proprietary weirdness that requires me to spend £30 on the Fox one?

Thanks

The official ones usually have a flat face that is less likely to damage the aluminium but any socket should work. Just make sure it remains seated nicely and loosen slowly. I always have one hand pressing down on the socket to ensure it doesn't slip and the other one on the handle to undo it.

Needs to have a flat face.

If you aren't ham-fisted, then crack on with a conventional socket (carefully).

If you are, this is a cheaper alternative than the Fox one.

as above... it needs to be nice and flat.
I got a wera one (i THINK 32mm as it's for for 36) and a mate with a lathe turned it down nice and flat.

Or just buy this:

EDIT - i actually had one of those epic bleed spanners, but it splayed apart. Could be poor quality. Could be my ham fisted approach and uber manly arm strength.... hmm....

I use one of these instead, although it looks like the Grey 26mm is out of stock typically! I'm sure others sell them though.

But yes, any 26mm socket/spanner if it's flat faced, a regular one won't always seat properly. Sometimes you get lucky!

Or if you have an angle grinder and a vice you could flatten off a stock one (disclaimer: don't die, ask a responsible adult to help etc. etc.).

Amazon socket looks ideal and means you can use a torque wrench to tighten the cap if you care about such things (I do)

I just ground an old one down to be flat.

It doesn't *need* to be flat, I've used the one in my socket set just fine but you're less likely to round something off if it is flat. Just remember to go slow and steady as it's soft metal

Another one for the Amazon flat top socket

I had the Epic flat spanner, it split on the 2nd use, they gave me a refund quickly

The Amazon socket arrived yesterday.  I’ve since noted it’s also sold by several of the more commonly know online bike retailers.

The tokens arrive on Monday, now to decide whether to start at adding one -total of three- or just go for broke and stick both in to the maximum of four for super progression, it is a race bike after all.

The main reason for buying these was to keeping the bike sitting up in the DH singletrack corners when I got tired yet keep the fork supple off the top / initial stroke for small bumps.
