Hi
I am sure I should know the answer to this but can I run a Shimano 11 - 42 cassette with my Sram Force CX1 11 speed I have a 11 -36 cassette at the moment and am having trouble on a few Cotswold hills?
Thanks
You'll need a new freehub body and a new rear mech - CX1 won't like the range. Probably cheaper to go 2x11 with your existing mech and cassette!
Thanks for the quick response but doing that I would have to buy a new shifter, crank, front mech and special mech hanger.
If it can not be done I will have to get a smaller front chain ring but I like the low gear I have at the moment.
Thanks
If you're running CX1 11 speed at the moment it'll depend on which length CX1 mech you're using. The long cage should allow you to run a 10-42 SRAM cassette so shouldn't have any problems with a Shimano 11-42.
Doesn't CX1 use shimano road pattern 11 speed splines, not XD? So just a matter of getting an MTB 11 speed cassette and a spacer. (If the cage is long enough)
Aaah, that'll teach me to reply quickly!
11-42 will of course not need a new freehub body (I read SRAM 10-42), but you will need a 10/11 speed spacer because of the aforementioned longer 11-speed road specific freehub body versus a mountain bike 11-speed freehub body which offsets the largest sprocket to achieve the same result.
On rear mech length I was just wrong - I was thinking SRAM were like Shimano, and that all road groups/CX1 came in short/medium, didn't realise there was a long, which will of course be ok, if it's what you have.
So the answer is 'maybe', but you can completely disregard what I said this morning!
