Did a search, didn't find much. I'd really like a silent hub, love my DT240 when first greased but it only lasts a ride or two before I can hear it again. Looks like my options are Onyx or Tairin. The Tairin is current favourite as it's cheaper and I think lighter, however I'd need to import one which is a pain.
So looking for feedback on longevity and reliability from anyone that's got one. Ta
My old Mavic cross max hubs from 2004 were almost entirely silent.
No idea if they are still using a similar design now.
I have one of the Onyx classic hubs on my bike. It is silent and excellent but does weight a lot, fortunately the rest of the bike weighs more so I haven't noticed. Maybe on something lightwieght or with rear suspension it would matter more?
The quick and 'soft' pickup is very nice, regular hubs feel jarring now and I don't want to go back.
I have a Tairin rear hub of some type, but it's not silent (so may not be a Shogun).
Anyway, I've had it for about four years and it's been absolutely reliable if that's any help...

You don't need a new hub - just upgrade yours with this kit from WRP. best of both worlds a light and silent hub.
I've got Onyx and love it but if I was starting again this is what I'd build as the Onyx is a weighty thing.
Thanks all.
The WRP kit does look good, just seems a little crazy spending nearly £300 on a 7 year old hub. But would save the expense of the new hub, new spokes, wheel build and probably a new rim.
Still keen to hear any experience of the Tairin hub if anyone has one.
