Not really a moan, I was just amused at the different business models.

I love SJS for their range and general technical knowledge and response to queries, but once you order it's sort of a Simpson's plumber-esque '3-4 days delivery, if we despatch today. Which we won't'

Also they use Royal Mail so1.5 weeks later and I still have no idea when I'm getting my parts, probably after the strikes.

Meanwhile I impulse buy a pair of tyres from Sigmasports yesterday and they're getting delivered tomorrow 😂

To be fair Sigma, despite being a small shop bitd, have always had a large warehousing back end to their business. Possibly because their shop was so small.

I ordered some small bits from SJS recently and they took over a week to arrive. Also ordered some larger parts about a week later and they arrived the next day. I think the difference was Royal mail sending the small bits and Parcel force the larger.

I agree SJS aren't the type to do super quick or next day delivery, but I guess for the market they cater to its good enough!

Sigmasports remind me a lot of wiggle in their heyday. Really reliable and easy to use.

Agree about SJS being a far less slick operation, but I get the feeling that more of my money is going to the guy who's answered my email about obscure bearing compatability than to some shareholder somewhere.

Last time i spoke to SJS they said they only post out on Monday's Wednesday's and Friday's

I ordered something in stock from Sigma on Sunday morning, it was despatched on Tuesday evening straight into the RM strikes so ill be lucky if i see it by Friday, more than likely it wont arrive till next week due the back log etc...

Wiggle have always been great for me, even more so i now have a Wiggle+ account

Precisely, I'll never begrudge the slower service because they're a pretty essential resource!

Sigma should just buy SJS and become a genuine one-stop-shop 😎 (assuming you can afford it, neither are exactly cheap)

SJS have great stock though. A week’s wait for something your LBS can’t source is no hardship. Sigma have been very slick when I’ve used them for a few things no one else had. Both very useful retailers.

Except the times they've sent me the wrong stuff 😛

You go to SJS for the stock and the expertise. I've always found delivery times to be reasonable. Sigmasport are local and hence always reliable. But of you need that mudguard spare, SJS.

SJS are awesome and stock those hard-to-get bits that mean you can fix components rather than replacing.
They’ve actually got a notice recommending  selecting express delivery at the moment on the front page of their website.

Or in my case a discontinued set of cantilever brakes, if anyone is going to hold stock it's SJS 😂 (or Spa Cycles now I think of it...)

Sigma seem to be my go to for most stuff now the days of Pre-Brexit German online shopping is over, they always seem to have stuff at a good price or Honey seems to find a code that works. Tredz is usually 2nd if I'm not in a rush and its just over £30. Bikester have been great recently as well but can take a week to deliver.

I think SJS also largely cater for people who've got their shit together, you know those weird people who order things before they absolutely need them and keep spares of consumables 😊

The world would be a much poorer place without SJS.

Better to have the chance to get something slowly than for it to be impossible to source.

Sigma sports took 10 days (to Monday) to deliver a saddle, but I suspect most of that was Royal Mail.

On the other hand, CRC and Evri…. Chamois crème ordered at 7pm on Saturday (10th) night arrived before noon on Sunday (11th) morning.

I do like using SJS although of late with them not using royal mail delivery has gone up in price.

Quite regularly I would pick up small parts from them but now not so - I need some bh90 olives but a fiver delivery for a three quid part stings a bit.

Clearly non of you SJS fans live abroad. I own a Rohloff hub which is largely unheard of here in Spain. I needed a paper gasket which is slightly larger than a postage stamp and a new grub screw to do an oil change. Sum total £3.50 and weight of 20 grammes at most, couldn't get them locally. SJS wanted £20 for a courier, I phoned them and said I was prepared to risk them not arriving if they put both items on an envelope, put a stamp on and stuck it in a letter box. They wouldn't entertain it.

Waiting on a small item worth ~£60 via royal mail from SJS for 2 weeks. Gave them a call and they they offered to send another via parcel force for free and I could return the delayed one later (although I did pay because having 2 won't hurt and/or I'll probably forget to return). Parcel force one came the next day. So quite helpful really.

I love SJS and try to use them often. SS are around the corner, in fact I am between the warehouse and shop, they are okay. stuff, bits, tyres, clothes and helmets (even mtb gear), I order for collection, go try it on and buy what fits. My experience of buying bikes off them, or mates getting services etc done is very different. unless its prebuilt dont do it. First ten years 2000-2010 they were brilliant, last 12 years they have been just pants! Dont start me on my last Colnago purchase...

I like SJS, Wiggle, and a few of the others, plus a German one someone here recommended for brake pads

Strangely it does actually rain in Spain and when it does the trails are really claggy and kill dérailleurs pretty quickly. I've done several bikepacking trips through the Basque country which would have been very hard work without a Rohloff.
Kevin, rarely a day goes by when we're not made acutely aware of the shitstorm that is brexit but not posting a stamp sized piece of paper and a grub screw is just nonsense.

@pistonbroke Duncan if you're struggling, you're welcome to get SJS to send them to me in UK, and I'll forward them onto you. PM me for address if you want

Much appreciated, I did find a solution, my bil lives in the west country and as he's a keen cyclist he's a relatively frequent visitor. It's odd that you become quite popular when it's in the 20's in February 😉

There was a thread on my club forum saying similar, basically that service can be patchy IRL, especially bike builds.

@bfw Yours wasn’t a C64 was it?

Well in an incredible last-minute reversal, the Sigmasports delivery got delayed by the snow until today and the SJS delivery appeared out of nowhere to pip them at the post.

Obsolete cantilevers AND suspiciously cheap Panaracers for the singlespeed, Christmas has come early 😎
