Or, rather lack thereof.
Simple question - would the spec on this page lead you to believe that the frameset came with a headset?
https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FRHOLSTEL/holdsworth-stelvio-touring-adventure-disc-frameset
It specifically says it does (an FSA orbit MX), so yeah.
Yes. It would be unusual, but it is listed in the spec.
No. There’s none in any of the pictures.
i would, however expect an fsa orbit mx to fit.
in the same way that id expect a 27.2mm seatpost and a bsa bb to fit.
Its not in the photo and it just seems they've copied the spec from the full bike and forgot to delete it. Its not right so i'd definitely be screenshoting it and asking for one but not be very hopeful
no
If we are going off pics only, how do you clamp the stem to the steerer?
whilst it could do possibly do with more clarity, no, I wouldn't expect it to come with a headset. I would expect an FSA Orbit MX to fit though...
In a similar vein, I wouldn't expect it to come with BSA BB, or a 27.2 seatpost etc.... but those are the sizes/standards listed.
I wouldn't expect one, by the same token you don't get a seatclamp or BB with it, it's just saying what the fit/standard is.
Nopes, i can't see why it would come with a headset... I doubt it comes with the brake adapters either..... Just because it describes the bits that are compatible, doesn't to me imply it comes with all of them.
It's not in the "headline" spec on the top right of the listing, so I'd assume it was a cut & paste error and would expect no headset. Bit unreasonable to demand one IMO, even though it's PX.
it’s just saying what the fit/standard is.
No, it's a cock-up. otherwise it'd say 44/56 or whatever.
To be fair though, it mentions that brake adapters are required, it doesn’t say that a headset is required, so you could read it that way.
This is the link to the spec for their other "good value" Holdsworth steel frame.
https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FRHOBRV/holdsworth-brevet-audax-frameset
You will see that the same Headset is listed as "required" and "not included", whereas on your frame it is clearly specced. I'd be getting in touch and asking them where your headset is (probably a good idea to get a screenshot of the two different frame specs prior to that as well..)
Probably a mistake on their part, but imho if you made the purchase on basis of available info you're perfectly entitled to ask for what they specced out..
I wouldn't, but I can kind of see how someone else might.
If I were the customer I'd take it on the chin, and if I were Planet X I'd send out a headset to the first person to feel misled and fix the web page before the situation repeats itself.
But I'm neither, so that's not hugely relevant 😉
Very annoying.. It lists it on the spec but nowhere does it say it is included. Poorly worded I grant, but I dont think it says clearly anywhere it comes with it.
Yeah, it's unclear at best, I did think it was unusual but it was a factor in the decision to get that frame and not a different one.
Anyway, Live Chatted with P-X, they apologised for it being unclear and offered to refund the postage for the headset if I ordered one. So I've done that.
Oh, and good old Yodel left the big ol'box with the frameset in it outside my front door, in clear view of the street. It was signed for according to their tracking site, not sure by who as there was no-one in...
I'd say yes it should be included, because it is a specificly listed component. Other than the frame its the ONLY other component listed.
Everything else in the specs states the relevant size / requirements, only the headset is a specific item, not a general bottom cup size **mm / top cup size **mm.
I'd call them about it, but knowing planet x they'll just say the page is wrong and it shouldn't have been listed and no you're not getting a headset included.
Like others I wouldn't expect it but I can see why there's doubt. In the event I was daft enough to buy another PX product, I'd definitely not expect it to come with the headset.
Looking at the page I wouldn't expect a headset.
Everything else is the description of a standard, whereas the headset specifies an item. I can understand why someone might've read it like you did, but headsets don't usually come with frames unless they're of the semi-integrated type.
