Hi all,
So I'm on the fence about something and am looking for advice.
I've got a Brother cycles 2019 Big Bro - basically, a Surely KM-type of 29er frame that can take 100m sus forks.
Thee steel forks are pretty nice, and the bike is a lot of fun to ride, but locally there are a lot of trails I'm riding and I'm often thinking about upgrading when coming down wrist crushing descents.
I've found some 2020 SID Ultimate Ray Days going for around 500 quid, so tempted to buy them. Being so light, I'm worried about durability. I've had Rebas in the past and found them to be very reliable. Any SID 2020's Ultimate owners out there?
Opinions welcome!
Only on the basis of your username, are you too hefty for an all-out XC race fork? I don't know if you + bikepacking gear would make them feel on the flexy end of things, or make them need a lot more pressure to perform properly.
Hi Martin,
I'm about 76kg and normally quite minimal with my setup.
Haven't 2020 SIDs got a terrible reputation for reliability due to lack of bushing overlap?
@Kramer, that sounds bad - what are the alternatives for 100mm? I'm going for SIDs over the Rebas because I didn't think the Rebas were so good with small-to-medium bumps.

I’ve heard multiple reports from friends and mechanics about common issues. Most notably, stanchion bushing play indicated by a knocking sound that ultimately forces the upper assembly to be warrantied. The new SID aims to fix this problem with longer upper tubes for increased bushing overlap. According to RockShox, “This means both the upper and lower bushings are fully engaged to reduce side loads during impacts, resulting in less friction, and increased long-haul durability.” They actually made the same update to both the Pike and Lyrik for similar reasons, and this upgrade alone might explain the quick turnaround of this range revamp and release.
Also, FOX 32's are another 100 quid, and I won't have to get a boost conversion kit:
I have Reba's on my bikepacking rig (usually). Can't say I really have any issues with them - although they really benefited from a service (i.e. better than when new).

Yes it was, on this year’s model update. But that wouldn’t apply to old stock of the 2020 model.
The issue was on the 120mm travel 35mm SIDS, ps i will have some 32mm 2022 SID ultimates 100mm travel, in blue for sale in a few week if interested drop me email at jonathantraverse@hotmail.co.uk
ps they are mint condition as only done a couple hundred mile, only selling as i had them on a Scott scale frame that had a warranty issue so bike was stripped and while waiting for a new frame i bought something else
