I have a 1/2” to 3/4” rip on my tyre sidewall. I have just put on a rubberised patch on the inside of the tyre and waiting for it to dry - tyre is run tubeless.
Anyone tried this and was it was ok or is it better to buy a new tyre - don’t really want to spend another £50 on a tyre.
All my previous punctures have been small 1mm - 2mm - 3mm type small holes, where a patch has been fine.
Something that big I would sew back together then patch on the inside with a tyre patch.
I sewed a similar sized tear with dental flossy and patched inside. Was fine afterwards and held air no problem
I sewed and patching mine and it still wouldn't hold air. Running with inner tube now.
So I presume without sewing there is a risk of the rip elongating - not sure about sewing - looks like a new tyre then.
Mushroom plug, used on many sidewalls, much better than sewing.
Superglue the rip and a large mushroom plug fron the inside should sort it.
Got a couple like that which are still going strong and tubeless
Nothing to lose bar a few minute by giving repair a go. Replace if it doesn't work.

I had a look at the stitching, after rechecking the rip is more like one inch - so decided to go for a new tyre as didn’t want to chance just a patch and the tyre blowing off!
