What's the best out there? Preferably available right/left handed so I can have same side access on down and top tube?

Check out Fidlock bottle/Cage, its a twist to remove design, the bottle is held on by magnets and clamping.

Zee cages. I have 4 on two bikes. Team them up with Specialized bottles too for a perfect fit.

I use Zeefal Wiiz cages, they can be adjusted to be open on L or R side

Zee here too - though they seem hard to find in black at the moment.

I have one on my Hightower. Slightly better value that the new Santa Cruz side-entry job!;

Zee. I think they have superseded it with a new model which is why it’s hard to find them...

I ended up getting a Zefal 'Wiiz' as it was cheap (~£4), has longer slots to allow me to shuffle it as far down as the frame will accommodate, and re-configurable for LH/RH, Down/Seat tube positioning.

No bottle ejections yet and I can just about squeeze a 750ml bottle in.

For the money I'm pleased with it for now...

Zee, so I run a Lezyne one that isn't as good of course (needs a certain shape of bottle to fit in properly, and Lezyne only make them in one size)

Looks like Zees are back in stock on the Specialized site now, I guess that means dealers will be able to order them in too? https://www.specialized.com/gb/en/zee-cage-ii--right/p/172378?color=274170-172378

The Lezeyne one I used dropped a bottle just going down the garden path. I would avoid at all costs.

Zee, no question. Got them on both our FS with Spesh bottles for added compatibility. Never dropped a bottle, even when the bike went cartwheeling down the trail at BPW.

Syncros tailor left/right worth a look. Colour options too if you're looking to coordinate.
Used them since they were launched and their retention is solid with any of the bottles I've used.

Fidlock has been the best I’ve used. Been running one on my rocket for the best part of a year and never lost a bottle or had any issues.

i love my fidlock set up too but the bottle doesn't squish like an ordinary one so you can't squirt it into your mouth, wasn't aware i did this so much until i couldn't.

Cheers, I do like the look of the Syncros. Will try and find both to have a play with in real life.

I've got a Specialized one and also a cheapo one from Decathlon which can be mounted either way round. Had plenty of use on long tours/rides with luggage and performed just fine.
