You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
@Stuart, did I dream it or didn't you indicate that the grid refs for the WRT would be sent about now. It's not leaving me enough time to build the strategically placed log cabin I was planning. Any news on the car that has gone into Clywedog this afternoon, it all sounds a bit grim.
Forget my ill informed rambling, the grid ref date is the 28th, just found your e mail.Doh.
I am loving this thread, I cant believe I have missed it.....I must sort an over nighter out...
@ Valleydaddy, nice blossom 😉
@ Pistonbroke, heard nothing about an accident ... hope they went in from the damn and not over the edge from the road above.
EDIT: Mounty, keep up man 😀
Cheers Stu, I was trying to get all artistic 😉
Hiding the rest of the shonky garden I expect. 😉
still s8tannorm -
I have had a few beers now....so now the brain has chilled out and I can now read through STW at a more leisurely pace 🙂
Hiding the rest of the shonky garden I expect
I must admit that is my best bush 😉
Pete - I see you've still left room to put your panniers on!
That rear bag looks good though I'm not sure I want butcher the ortilieb one I have - let me know how you get on with it
Seeing as Alpkit has run out of Rigs, does anyone have a template for a tarp??
Gonna have a go at making one..
Still got a couple of old ones I was issued, but fancy a change from the DPM Colourscheme..
🙂
Pete - I see you've still left room to put your panniers on
Yes indeed but hoping I don't have to, if you remember last time it took 2 of us to lift my bike over a gate!!
Tarp ideas here http://www.backpacking-lite.co.uk/diy/make-an-ultralight-solo-tarp.html

That rear bag looks good though I'm not sure I want butcher the ortilieb one I have - let me know how you get on with it
I felt the same Steve but I had a Lidl one that I used that was a couple of quid so no worries if I trash it at the weekend, I will take extra straps incase it fails 😉
But I think it will be fine as it feels sturdy enough 😉
So what you been a mixing tiger?

Like the crackers and squeezey cheese idea though
Has anyone tried these boil(able) food bags? ... stick a meal in one, then drop the whole bag into your pan of boiling water and eat it straight from the bag.
I've reheated food using the boil in the bag method with food decanting to 'pour and store' bags. Worked ok, the bag pulls out at the bottom so it stands well.
Bigface0_0Gutted Alpkit have sold out of the Gourdon 20 really wanted one for Wales.
Is that the one with mesh posckets and compression elastic you are after? I have one I don't use, been used a handful of times and is orange.
I'll be at WRT.
From bitter experience, I'd say valleydaddy is going to have to watch out for drybag/front-tyre incidents. Especially with a suspension fork.
If that's OK, though, you've got a nice setup there!
Aidan - yes I was thinking the same when I took the pictures last night, I will be re-packing the front bag to make it slimmer and longer to avoid such an incident with drybag/front-tyre.
I don't think I am hardcore enought yet to go rigid up front too 😉
This thread seems to have become a bit of an unoffical WRT info source so...
Stuart, any idea what time on Thursday you're going to email out those grid refs?
I have managed to a)sort my report deadline for work for the 27th, b) be just about the only person in the office and c) have Memory Map installed and ready at work.
So 9am would be great, y'know, just in case I've got nothing to do for my lunch break ;o)
@Dyffers ... I'll see what I can do, can't promise owt though as I'm guiding all week 😉 Yes, sorry if it seems to have become a slightly wrt thread but I suppose most of the folk who post on here will be riding the wrt.
Pete - I looped the grey straps on the bar roll around the bars as well - it makes it a lot more secure (I didn't trust those black velcro straps on their own!) and it meant I was able to pull the bag up a bit higher - certainly I had no issues with my Inbred/Revs set up on the last ride - apart from too many bloody punctures!
Cheers Steve good tip regarding the grey straps, I will do that for sure.
I keep meaning to call in and give you your socks back too - sorry 😳 , I am waiting in for CityLink to collect some parcels if they don't turn up I'll be driving down to the depot to drop them off myself so if I do I'll pop by 😉
Pete, where is the bar roll from?
Revelate by the looks of it
indeed it is a Revelate one, Steve and I bought one together to save on postage, took ages to come as well, didn't get stung for customs either unlike the Jannd bag.
Is the sub 5kg including food too? ... either way, it's a good weight considering there's a tent involved 😉
yes, dehydrated expedition food (orange bags) and gel and endurance blend chocolate brownies 😉
Rab and Haglofs clothing, Ti cook gear in seatbag.
Bedroll on bars is a little over a kilo for quilt, mat and pillow
few bits stashed in Tangle
and a lovely bright red tent on my back.
Think a whole new forum section is needed for bikepacking.. this thread is getting more traffic than bikepacking.net.
First bivi of the year tomorrow night somewhere up near Kielder... hoping next week I will have a delivery of bags from Revelate and Cleaveland Mountaineering to start the prep for Grenzstein trophy.
Great thread 🙂
Shame you can't make the WRT Paul ... maybe next year 😉
You're right about the interest, this thread just keeps running, the WRT blog gets 500 hits a day and Bikepacking.net seems pretty busy too. It's all good!
Hmm .. maybe WRT would be a better use of my time than racing round Kielder for 12 hours .. don't count me out just yet 🙂
You've missed the official entry cut off and the extra extended entry cut off BUT I'm a easily bought 😉
Let me know if you want in.
I spent Tuesday night under the stars.
Here's a video of it.
Don't worry about the abrupt end - it's not finished, but I'm going away for a few days, so I thought I share in case it inspires someone to go out while I'm gone....
Very nice Alex. I think you've captured a certain something there.
I think that picture of the MiTi mug needs to be sent to Alpkit... Great film though. Makes me wish I was somewhere a little less flat right now.
Foodwise Booths do some excellent organic boil in the bag meals...
That's great Alex I look forward to seeing the final cut.
Hoping to recreate the same tomorrow night 😉
any links for Foodwise Booths Teetosugars??
Quick google search didnt show anything obvious
Ta
Pete
Hoping to recreate the same tomorrow night
Did a quick recce this afternoon and we should be afforded the most excellent view. Just hope the haze goes a little.
13 Hobbits - Tandem Jeremy
What happened to the other 9 - did they get eaten by the Orcs?
Ta IanB 😉
Food bags - Lansinoh breast milk storage bags look quite good - they have ml graduations on the side and everything 🙂

What happened to the other 9 - did they get eaten by the Orcs?
Mrs TJ got hungry and they were slow
I got some of those the other week when the were on offer in Waitrose very nice indeed too.
A nice idea for the WRT for a pick me up on the second evening I am thinking 😀
Not sure about the second night, Im thinking both nights 😀
too much weight though 😉
Aren't you meant to be high up in the Beacons around now Pete?
That's later this afternoon
Put all the gear together last night and Im sure it weighs the same as my bike empty so I've decided to not worry about it and just get used to the fact it weigh's a ton and take the nicer things in life.
At the end of the day for me WRT is about even enjoying the view and taking our time if we dont make all the check point so what its about having a laugh with ya riding mates for me...
How's the family Flatfish?
will you be able to make it later??
I'm with you there Bigface0_0
wunthousand fivehundred 😆
Bigface you've hit the nail on the head ... although the WRT is hard to define, the one thing it certainly isn't is a race 😉
As much as we all strive for light kit, my old black Inbred weighs rather a lot (ask flatfish) and sometimes it has made things a little tougher (like when it caused quad insertion strains and I couldn't walk for 2 days 8O) but it's never stopped me enjoying any and every trip I've ever taken it on 😀
I think bikepacking should be a combination of fun and adventure, enjoying the scenery and experiences along the way.
What mountainbiking used to be like without the pressure of doing it as fast as possible all the time 😉
Got my kit together for this afternoon - 3145g, inc food 8)
Well I think Ian just urinated on your bonfires chaps.
Haha indeed he does, but my big clothing weighs twice as much as his 😯
I look forward to seeing this stripped back kit.
I've removed a few unessentials and am now down to 4.5kg 😉
LOL, it remains to be seen how comfortable a nights sleep I get or how hungry I am in the morning 😉
Go on Ian, give us a kit list run down 😉
I'm sure I'll have some morsels to spare I'm not going to starve 😉
I'll be there pete. 😛 have you got nibbles and wine for tonight?
A hip flask of single malt and some shortbread 😉
may pinch one of the girls easter eggs though 😀
Ian can suffer with his too light weight kit and we can have a party keeping him awake in the process. 😈
Top plan 😆

From Tuesday nights outing on Cut-Gate, Derbys-
It was absolutely beautiful. I was testing my full C2C kit (exc. food) if anyone wonders why I seem to have a lot of kit for a one nighter.
I had a great session on the sewing machine last night and made my first frame bag. Really pleased, its nice and secure and should hold all the bits and pieces I had previously just zip-tied to the frame. The great thing is I managed to butcher and old fishing rod carrybag for the cordura so it only cost me £2.50 for the zip.
We are having our WRT kit practice session on Monday so I'll report back with final weights and photos!! How exciting 🙂
Bag looks well Anthony ... cheap always a bonus.
Bit of a PSA now ... some pages back someone asked where I got my Force Ten Helium from for less than £100, well they're back at £95 http://www.fieldandtrek.com/vango-helium-100-tent-783126
I just got one, thanks
I spent Tuesday night under the stars. Here's a video of it....
.....I thought I share in case it inspires someone to go out while I'm gone....
Great stuff! It's inspired me to maybe do a little video thingy of this coming Sunday's Dartmoor bivi 🙂
I dont have a video but i do have a hammock...
(Slightly too much gear but it was just a test trip)
