the shrink wrap keeps deteriorating on my coil and causing notchiness, is there any other reason for this being there other than to make them quiet? in other words if i remove it will it cause me any problems other than deafness

good enough for me thanks... was concerned it might cause wear on inner stantion but cant see that wrap doing much to stop that anyway i guess

Is this a 44 or 55? I was wondering if there would be much noise if left un wrapped.

I have a 44 and have tried slightly thicker wrap but there's so little room for anything other than the spring that it created a bit of stiction so contacted windwave and got some of the original stuff, which lasts 2 minutes.

ive finished servicing them, (55's) and left the wrap off. there is a little noise but not worth bothering over. i find as soon as the wrap breaks up it causes stction and notchiness
