Yes, another swift. Now wearing RR 2.4 front and 2.1 xmark rear. Lovely, lovely bike.

[IMG] [/IMG]

And another to bring back those fond snow biking memories!

Why can't I have a Singular with a short top tube? Or any other 29er to be honest. I'm a short arse who wants to runs drops, 2"+ tyres and discs. The shortest pergrine is just about there but I want a higher front end. Something like a Salsa Fargo but lighter.

My 29er Inbred as they've been surprisingly sparse in this thread so far!

[img] [/img]

Not ridden it in a couple of months now, but still loving big wheels overall... Might finally get round to getting some "summer" tyres for it and get it out on the trails whilst they're nice and quick!

Ho much (lbs) are these SS rigid Swifts coming in at?

They seem very popular here, either that or their riders take more pictures of their steeds than the rest of us!

There are actually a few hundred getting around now - this is but a small portion - global domination will yet be mine 😉

Ade

Thanks for the advice. I'm starting with copper to get used to marking out and achieving the shapes I need. I've then got 3 metres of Columbus cro-mo to go at. Apart from shipping costs it is just as cheap to use basic Columbus tube compared to trying to find mild steel that isn't gas pipe / conduit. Packing the tube with dry sand seems to help avoid kinks and crinkles.

A few early pics are at on the Italian ss mafia's blog site - the chainstays have changed shape considerably since then. I really want to do a nice big sweep bend in the seat tube (not the tight bend shown) but it means making a big crescent template to drag the tube round - not sure if I can be bothered for a first proto.

Hurry up and get the new frames in then, you've no idea quite how upsetting these threads are to me at the moment.

i'm in the FoD and would love even a look at one. Its really my dodgy wrists that cuase the problems hence the need for a short top tube. Seem to remember that Gryphons don't go short enough. Would bve nice to be wrong. Matt

anyway, i'm getting dragged along by this whole 29er thing so when you put gears back on your swift (you know it's only a matter of time 😉 ) can i have a go? 🙂

Mine's been SS since I got it in January, I like it, but I don't like the lack of speed with an easier gearing, the bad climbing of a harder gear, and the middle ground just sucks. I've only last week decided to go for a minimal amount of gears to get me about better.

Thanks to STW users for the Frame and Wheels (and other odd bits over the years)

YEs I know that tensioner looks like a deore mech...! I am thinking that if 36:20 works for me, I can get the perfect tension with a 1/2 link and a tiny bit of dropout filing....

rOcKeTdOg - and move the brake levers away from the "jedi" position

how's it ride?

oh and...

the "jedi" position helps me stay my side of the bars... not always mind. rides good, tyres were a bit shite for wetter conditions and i was nervous at first as i thought the rigid forks would have me going off at tangents on wet rootes but it was all good, still seemed to have plenty of energy left after 3+ hours... maybe i just ate less pies! 🙂

what's with the misfit, can't be yours, it's only got one gear 😉
