Lets see 'em then. You know the ones. You've owned it forever, can't bring yourself to get rid of it and its seen numerous guises over the years. Parts have been upgraded and replaced so theres nowt left but the frame

I bought this P7 off the classifieds on here 13 years ago. It was essentially new as the guy had bought it for his son who'd never ridden it. The spec was pretty basic so it was gradually upgraded. Then it was stripped and powder coated in Greggs blue and rebuilt again with a full XT Groupset, decent lighter Fulcrum wheels etc. Its been ridden all over the place over the years. It then sat in the shed for ages while I rode other bikes around.

Recently I saw it looking sad and forlorn so I decided to turn it into a gravel/commute/pub bike so this is its latest incarnation... 27.5" wheels shoehorned in, rigid carbon fork, 2x10 drivechain, dropper taken off and unneccessary carbon bars and seatpost added. I like riding it so much (it does more miles than my 'proper' bikes) that I think I'm going to strip it again and powder coat the slightly tatty painjob. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. I bloody love this bike!

The only original part other than the frame is the seat clamp.

My 1990 Cannondale SM700 Chameleon. My first nice bike replacing a Muddy Fox Courier. Obviously it's been through a few incarnations, seen the world etc, but now it's my town bike. Original bits back on there (they were in a box for years) are the Odyssey Aerator seatpost without the valve head, although the pump handle is in there somewhere, the Suntour XCD cranks and the (very very notchy) headset. Saggy flite which was its first upgrade I think, maybe second after the flexstem.

The original steel handlebars are currently cut down on my Brompton. Everything else long gone.

I should retire it really as those 1" frames tended to break at the headtube even when new.

I don't have any photos of its final incarnation, but it was pretty much just this with the frame swapped for a Vitus Sommet. Most of these parts had been on pretty much every bike I've had over the past 15+ years since I've always been a bit of a serial frame swapper and only replaced parts when they broke. I wish I'd kept it all instead of selling it off to pay for my 29" hardtail tbh. Could have just fitted a shorter 27.5" fork and had a nice mini mullet hardtail slopeduro thing

This started off in December 2006 as a GT i-Drive 5. Almost all of the components had been replaced by August 2020 when I moved them to another frame. By 2022, when this was taken, the only original part was the seatpost.

My 2007 Kona Paddy Wagon fixed wheel road bike is still rocking its original frame and Cane Creek brake levers. Everything else has been replaced; Enigma carbon monocoque fork with mudguard eyelets, Shimano deep drop brake calipers, Harry Rowland hand built wheels, different bars, new (carbon parts bin) seatpost and Fizik saddle, vintage 165 mm Shimano 105 cranks (after I snapped the originals). Rode 50 miles on it last night. It is a joy to ride, and I commute on it once a week. Still my go to for bad weather as it has full length PDW mudguards over 28c tyres.

2014 Kinesis FF29 - Has done everything from XC racing, Enduros, Bike Packing, local KOM killer, Gravel Racing and reborn again as a hybrid to go exploring.

Nothing left of the original build and everything was pulled out of the discarded piles of old stuff 2x10 speed XT, forks from a Stache. To get it going again after being flung in a corner after the old drivetrain let me down I had to buy a Cues double chainset For £10 and a pair of tyres. Owes me nothing.

So I bought a 2017 Genesis Tarn when the ol' 27.5 PLUS was all the rage and looked to be the next big thing (SPOILER: it wasn't).

It came with an under-lever seat post, a really basic Reba fork and not much else, but it's a lovely steel frame that fits me really well. I've since turned it into a monster gravel bike - either with 29er wheels or I still have the 27.5 that I throw on occasionally for a bit more "bouncy".

Swapped the fork out for a rigid one, stripped the bike back to a raw finish and made it much, much faster.

It's a great bike and if it wasn't so fun to ride I'd really start to wonder why I spend so much time on it

I spotted this fine steed in the possession of a crackhead outside a supermarket yesterday and am assuming there's some element of Trigger's Brooming going on - because that model, the Raleigh Lizard, is the first 'mountain bike' I bought 35 years ago (£200 in 1990). Rode it for six months before it got stolen; put the insurance money towards a cheap but functional 'proper' MTB and a Jeremy Ashcroft guide book, and so it began.

Thanks for crediting me with far more sophistication than I deserve. It’ll be an Instagram filter, which could probably date it pretty accurately 😉

Still got this one in this photo from 96. A Look KG196 monoblade, 8s Campa Record, Shamals - though it's 9s Dura Ace now. I've also got my bike from the following year, a Look KG181 tour edition #284 with 9s Dura Ace. My favourite bikes earlier that all retired broken with fatigue cracks. 🙁

The '95 was designed for V-Brakes? My '94 has the canti mountings so looks a little bit excessive with V's.

A previous owner cut off the cable hanger for cantilevers.

V brakes came out in late 95. I rode a mates bike with them when they came out & grabbing a handful of the front sent me straight over the bars

Been posted many times, but...

'97 Lava Dome, owned since new. Original parts = frame and the plastic sleeves that stop the exposed cable inners rattling against the top tubes. Only goes as far as the pub or gym these days

Around 2005 I bought a Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo (Inexplicably didn't remove the rear reflector, and added a bike lock).

Frame snapped and it was replaced under warranty with a Big Sur, which left me with clashing forks for a while

When funds allowed, I upgraded the forks to something more pleasing to the eye

Yes, early Noughties Fishers had a habit of doing that... this was my second, and I also ended up with a high end Trek.

This was an Arkose 3 2014. The frame was replaced for the 2015 model after the dropouts disintegrated. The only original parts left are the seatpost, handlebars and shifters. Everything else has seen more reincarnations than Dr Who.

Currently its ghost shifting from the middle ranges on the cassette making cruising along a challenge. Its currently dressed with a pair of Hunt 3 season gravel hubs (sweet as) and it runs great. Really needs new bars as they are somewhat bent out of shape thanks to a few spills over the years. Needs some comfortable bar tape as well.

 

EDIT: I give up trying to post pictures, you'll just have to imagine it

Rather spookily, Facebook tells me that I got this frame 12 years ago today - nearly had my money's worth out of it.

I remember being given the option of 26" or 29", at the time I was convinced 29" would be a passing fad, and didn't want to have to upgrade my forks/wheels etc.  I think I'm now prepared to admit that it might not be a fad after all.

Oh look - image posting is working again - huzzah.

 

Not even all the frame is original - frame is a Shogun bought from an end of season sale at Wheelbase in 1999 for £99 and was built up from bits from an older frankenbike so the SE Beartraps and STX-RC brakes pre-date it by a couple of years.

I initially retired it around 2007 with a cracked head tube and it was stuck in the corner of a workshop I shared with a cycle designer. He was going to visit a manufacturer in Taiwan so shoved the frame in with his luggage and took it with him. At the factory he left it with the prototypers before he went in to the meeting and when he came out a few hours later they'd replaced the head tube, heat treated it, re-aligned in, shoved it on a production like of Reise and Muller Birdies where it got the grey powder coat, and re-aligned it again.

That was around 2009 and the red insulation tape I put on as an 'it'll do for now' to secure the brake cable because I didn't have any zip ties handy has been there since then

The SE Beartraps were bought as a cheap get-me-home fix from a little bike shop in Portree after smashing a pedal out of the crank at Sligachan (they gamely sold me a single left crank arm as well so the previous frankenbike even had a Trigger's Chainset)  They've lasted so long, despite never receiving any sort of maintenance that I decide to splash out another £20 for a pair to go only my Banshee.

Bought second hand in the early 80s.  I believe it was a road race bike and french made.   Came with campag groupset and tubs.

 

Its bern thru many incarnations including being my offoadbike with cyclocross tubs and wide(ish)  gearing.

 

Now running modern rims and clinchers.  60s SA 3spd 30s gear lever but original wienman centre pulls.   Only part left from the bike i bought is the frame
