I have just finished swapping my Titus Fireline Ti 29er kit over onto my new Rockstar Carbon 29er frame (courtesy of Planet-X / On-One’s Christmas sale) & would be interested to see what others have done with theirs.

I tried to get a Hope headset – but couldn’t find one in their pick-n-mix range – with a 45 degree seat angle and wasn’t convinced the Cane Creek one on their ‘Headset Finder’ was correct so had to order the FSA one (FSA Orbit C-40 No 42 ACB tapered) as specified on the Planet-X specs. What have others used?

At the moment I have just got my Racing Ralph’s on from the swap and need to get some better winter tyres – possibly Smorgasbords 2.25s (as on the Planet-X’s build) or even better a set of Schwalble Hans Dampfs 2.35 – if they will fit. Has anyone got them on theirs?

I have just finished building it today & its raining so no pics yet – but I should be out on it tomorrow in all the mud…..

Lester (off here) who is also building one sent me this link of some examples from the Titus website:
http://rockstarcarbon.blogspot.co.uk/

And I would love to see yours – so post up your pics.

Also as my Ritchey Carbon 31.6 seat post does not fit I need to get a 30.9 one if anyone is interested in doing a swap. I could also swap an Easton 30.9 carbon for a Ritchey 30.9 carbon.

I look forward to seeing what yours looks / rides like…….. John

Hi Lester
I've got an Easton carbon seat post on it at the moment - but being a bit of a tart it doesn't match my Ritchey carbon bars & stem - so it's got to be changed. The Titus badge is of a smaller radius than the Rockstar head tube so might need to be 'relaxed' if that's possible to fit.

What brakes have u got? I would happily come over to help you if you have any problems.

That's good news about the Hans. Dampfs as I fancy a set of them - now to get a good price on them...

John

John Thanks for the offer of the help, if i took you up on it i would happily come to you, sometime next weekend maybe?
ive got ritchey carbon bars too, i also have a ritchey cabon seatpost never used, but in 31.6 🙁
yes i understand what you mean about relaxing the badge
i bought a set of slx brakes from crc but im not sure whether to take the older brakes from other bikes
i have formula the ones on 2 bikes and hopes on another bike, which are easier to bleed ?,
thinking about it i think the slx need shimano proprietry
looking forward to seeing your build later

What made you swap the bits over from your Fireline John? Are you keeping it? I would certainly have a carbon Rockstar to show you if the geometry was different on them! (I hope Brant reads this...) An inch off the chainstays would make it amazing. I have a full sus with similarly long stays which admittedly does ride well, especially for more xc type stuff, but after getting a Fileline I swore I'd never own another 29er with long stays. That price is amazing though, let us know how it rides.

happybiker
i dont understand
the chainstay is only half inch longer on the rockstar than the ibis ripley and the santa cruz tall boy which are both 17.5
and i less understand about the fireline at 17.1 inch chain stay is nearly half inch shorter
what full suss 29er have you got that has shorter chainstays? and what length are the chainstays

I may have worded it wrong. I was referring to my Ellsworth Evolution which also has 18" stays. There are a few full sussers that are shorter than the Titus Evo - Whyte, Enduro, Lenz, BH Lynx etc which I would like to try. The difference trying to manual the Ellsworth compared to the Fireline is massive.

After a year on the Ellsworth I had just built the Fireline up and tried to wheelie it out the driveway and nearly landed on my arse!
