My bike looks dull and needs to be bright orange.

Inspire me please.

My old Kona Process 153 came in a kind-of tangerine orange, which I found very pleasant...

Although I've just agreed to sell it, I don't think you can beat neon orange for a mountain bike. It's the way that it changes with different light conditions that I love. Although I don't have the skill with the camera to do that justice I'm afraid.

The "safety orange" of my Smuggler (also now sold) was OK, but didn't "pop" in the same way.

I've just realized that, once I sell the Five, I won't have any orange bikes. That's a depressing thought 🙁

Love orange on a bike. It makes me feel like a kid again.

I'll let this thread run its course, then put out the call for yellow!

🙂

Not mine, but liking the new RM Instinct in orange: I'd have this if I was buying a bike now!

Mine has orange flashes

It's matt fluorescent orange and looks way better in the flesh.

My Remedy 29

Both started out different colours but I got them anodised by Steve the Anodiser. It's really bright and sparkly in bright sun, goes flat in lower light and is red in twilight, I really like it.

Tell me more about Steve The Anodiser.

How much did it cost, did he prep the frame?

"zippykona

Tell me more about Steve The Anodiser.

How much did it cost, did he prep the frame?"

Both were somewhere between £125 and £150 including return post and some other smaller bits (the hemlock got hubs done, the remedy got a maxle and some bolt covers and stuff.) He does all the prep, you just send him a dismantled frame and he does the rest. The stickers are my own though.

Now, the Hemlock went really smoothly- in fact when I broke the chainstay he colourmatched another for me super fast and I had the new one in the bike in days, it was awesome.

The Remedy, not so much, he had an absolute nightmare stripping the stock paint off, to the point it was obviously really getting to him, so it ended up stuck in Anodising Limbo for a few weeks... I'm pretty sure he hated me for the whole thing but I was happy. Delighted with the end result, definitely.

The complications are, it's literally colouring the metal so it won't work on all materials, and the colour can come out differently in different parts- frinstance the welds on the remedy are much darker and sort of dirty looking, which I've got used to now and quite like but it was a surprise. And it can't cover damage, I polished out scratches and that but you can't filler it or anything like that. And there's a limit to the colour choice. But i just love it anyway- it weighs nothing, it looks interesting... Highly recommended, 10/10, would anodise again.

That custom anodising is great!

I find my black bikes rather boring but the black anodising on the Spitfire is very tough and almost weightless. I asked Banshee why they didn’t anodise the other colours and they said that this particular alloy can only be anodised in very dark shades.
