has done a lot of miles lacks road bike speed on the flat but the 26 inch wheels with bigger rubber makes for a comfy ride.

A proper hybrid. None of this drop bar, racing bike nonsense. 😉

Will take full guards and a rack if required. At the moment it's dutifully pretending to be a flat barred CX with Maxxis Raze tyres and silly wide DH bars.

Flat barred CX, rigid, skinny wheeled 29er, tourer, commuter = "hybrid"

Specialized Crosstrails

[img] [/img]

Riding position is high which is great in traffic and the handling feels a lot like a proper mtb. I was initially thinking about replacing the hydraulic tektro brakes but they've got more than enough power and haven't needed any servicing in 2 years. Replaced the tyres with land cruisers and the rear mech with an XT after destroying the old one in a chain snapping incident. The fork weighs a ton and is fairly shite, needs replacing with something lighter and probably rigid.

si white - Bars are On-One Midge

ian83 Bag is a Carradice SQR Tour Slim. Seems to have collected a "SuperC" badge and £10 - £15 in price since I bought mine. £80 at the mo from Carradice, £70 from SJS cycles, but showing out of stock. I think they make them in small batches as and when, so they shouldn't be out for long, especially if you order one!

Well recommended, I'd buy another at the higher price. I've recommended 2 friends get them, and they're chuffed. Holds 10kgs and 16litres, you can strap more stuff to the top. Going towards the 10 kgs with the weight there on the bike does take a bit of getting used to. No worries trundling along, but you know about it if you get out of the saddle and yank on the bars.

Mine's kept the contents dry for an hour in the pissing rain, but you might want a drybag inside if you're out in the rain all day. There are bolt heads inside which need covering up if you're cycling home with, just for example, your work laptop inside. 😳

Easy on-off the seatpost bracket, and when it's off the bike, you're just left with that plastic block on the seatpost.

Renton - I have the same bike and love it.
Keep an eye on the cables as the pass across the top of the fork though - had a bit of rubbing on mine...

Our soon to be sold Ute.
Sadly, it's a bit OTT for our needs now. 😥

The imminently practical MinUte for me, you can easily wind it up to 20mph on the flat and all the while the ride remains very civilised.

got two... oooo

Specialized Tricross
[img] [/img]

Vitus VEE 29
[img] [/img]

My main criteria were...
1) can i afford to quickly replace it if it's stolen?
2) does it attract a lot of attention?
3) are there any QR bits, or can anything be nicked from it, quickly?

I reckon that a commuter bike should work reliably in all conditions and to look quite too boring to be worth stealing. Thus, the Vitus is the better bike for me (however it needs a custom built pannier rack..)

Wildcard. [u]Have you considered one of these???
