Just purchased a frame that I'll be building up over the weekend and would love some inspiration.

First bouncy bike for about 8 years and I'm really looking forward to it.

Show me your Salsa Horsethief's in pose/action if you will.

Normally it's fine, think that's the number board messing with it.

Actually got a set of new Deore brakes coming - find the white master cylinders of the Avids it came with quite distracting in forest gloom.

guitarhero, looks like your hose is running on the outside of your fork.

How are you lot finding bearing life (in the frame, not the day to day grind of life though you're more than welcome to share)?

Got about 6 months out of mine, generic bearings similar to hubs etc so easy to find off ebay, think I put some SKF ones in last time, I forget....it still felt ok to ride but when I took the shock off I found the rear end barely moved by itself as the main pivot ones were in quite a state

1 year on the bearing which is crap

But on the other hand they are very easy to change and not expensive

I opened all my bearings up when I got them and put soe extra grease in them.

They looked well lubed in there though.

I've been more than happy with mine, totally flatters my ability. Had it out the other day for the first time in ages and mentioned that its probably the safest bike I own, i.e. the only one that I have no plans to swap/sell or even do anything with and if I ever broke it I'd buy another.

You took that out to take a picture purely for this thread, didn't you Klaus?! 😀

That would imply that I've washed it. 😆

OK, here's a question for your Horsethief owners.
Would you swap it for a Turner Sultan?

The only reason I ask is Turner is my surname and I'd like a bike with my name on it. Never ridden one and really like my Horsethief.

I won't pretend the idea is anything other than sheer vanity

If its for vanity then I'd change my name to Horsethief.

Not ridden a sultan but on paper, no

Turner is twice the cost though so it seems an odd 2 to compare against.

You sir need a Bic pen. By far your cheapest option.

How have people fixed dropper post cables? Just zip tie to top tube? Any neater option?

There is routing on the down tube(to cable tie too), on the mk1 anyway.

I use two of these although I forget where I bought them from http://www.velodromeshop.net/index.php?p=product&id=2323&gclid=CjwKEAjwi6OeBRCCrZqp-qaQhhISJACrfbtAzaOl4rVtRIPzPOSaFc-BrhZT7ui8d2vnq6_YTrw91xoC7lTw_wcB

My Reverb hose wasn't long enough to run it down the down tube on a 20" without having to veer across above the chainset, looked a bit odd, prefer it hidden alongside the top tube

How have people been finding these cope with the lack of rear triangle pivot? Any cases of them snapping back there?

Any heavy riders at about 100 Kg?

Not that I have heard of, they used flexstays on a variety of frames for years, only has to bend 5mm or something across the whole length of the seat stay, sorry, 5.3mm http://salsacycles.com/bikes/archive/2013_horsethief_1_frame

I used Sugru for the Reverb cable. Along the top tube.

Reckon I'd be touching 100kg with full kit on. Will report back if I die.

Reckon I'll run the Reverb hose on the down tune, just a tad neater. Darn it, more stuff to purchase. 1xLonger Reverb hose. Well while I'm at it I may as well get something shiny, come hear Narrow Wide hope ring.

i wouldn't swap it for all the tea in China.

i've used some small amount of hyperbole, but it really is astonishingly good.
