What size frame are you after? Have you seen the small Bullit listed on ebay today?

Here's my recent build - frame and shock cost me £300 including USA shipping. Only 5" rear travel as it's an earlier model but feels pretty good on the d/h track with the Lyriks wound out 😀 .

Here is my £400 bargin
Damm can't find the pic!!

It's a Giant DH Vintage 04, with a set of 888's up front, comes in with a modern 60degree head angle!!

Here's a pic of what it can do in the right hands

min spec for a cheap bike DH/Freeride
7"+ Travel
888's or Boxxers
Not cracks (unless it's an old intense they get welded all the time)
Dints maybe

Anything else a bonus

Sorry but not what you want!

Built this up with a cheap-but-new frame, s/h fork and odds and ends a couple of years ago, probably £800 or £900 all in...

[img] [/img]

I suppose it was a reasonable introduction to big bikes and I learned a bit from it, but I can't say I ever really clicked with it.

Should have bought one of the new Big Hits that were just out at the time instead, and indeed I'd look for a s/h one of them if I were doing it now.

That photo of your bike.
Looks like the Atherton leap at Llangynog. (next to Bala DH track)

I don't think that Carrera is that bad. They have reviewed them in WMB/MBUK/Bikeradar before now and from what I remember the comment is that they're pretty heavy but accordingly solid. I think they have Suntour Epicon forks on the current Voodoo range and the Carrera Fury, and again not bad write ups.

Anything else will cost much more than that, so for something you could abuse and not really care about, that could be a good choice.
