Not sure you'll meet someone on the trails with another of those - very niche indeed.

I rode it belt drive single speed for a couple of weeks, then chain drive Rohloff while I waited for the pulley adapters to turn up.
Today was the first ride as a belt drive Rohloff.
Everything works as it should.

Shouldn't the title be I'll show you my.....?

How about adding these to make it even more unicheque?

Yes I am a bit jealous.

It's all very nice having a "belt drive, hub gear, Lefty, titanium, 29er", but that stick stand is uber-niche. 😆

Joking aside, that is a nice looking bike.

Think the reason why I like it is that it looks in proportion. The wheels don't look clown sized.

Risers and bar ends are good

I think I'm in love with that Black Sheep :O

$3850 frame and shock isn't quite as cheap as the dodgy carbon frames I've been buying from China recently though....

Cheers, Rich

Hmmm, no matter what the lighting is, I always get a glare off the bare titanium with my phone camera.
Anyway, washed the mud off and stripped the lights, toolbag etc. off it today and weighed it.
10.83kg as a single speed.

Hi MTG,
Really like the bike, did you just get lucky with the stay length or do you use some sort of tensioner that I can't see to keep the belt from slipping/take out the slack?
The reason I am asking is I want to convert my bike to belt drive but doesn't have sliding dropouts and I thought that this was a pre-requisite to maintain tension.

Nick

Chainstay length is critical with a belt drive.
There's a gearing and chainstay length calculator on Gates' website.
There's only a limited choice of pulley sizes and belt lengths to choose from though.
I was lucky that I only needed one front pulley to run 50x20 with the Rohloff and 50x28 singlespeed, which worked out near enough the same as 32x18 and 32x13 and both near enough 454mm chainstay length. Well within the 14mm adjustment range of the Bushnell EBB anyway.

Benefits of belt drive? Curious question. Silent? Less maintenance?

Yes, it is strangely silent.
If you think of the difference between a clean new chain and a dirty worn chain, it's sort of that much quieter again.

I live in Worcestershire in an area of red sandstone. Not particularly abrasive in its self, but all the puddles are red as it seems to be held in suspension in the water, which makes it very hard on chains and brake pads.
The pulleys are obviously not new any more, but they look more polished than worn. I would have had to adjust a chain several times by now.

The only disadvantage so far, apart from having to buy a belt specific frame, is the chainstay length thing.
I'm pretty much stuck with the gearing I chose when I ordered the frame.
Whereas before, I would occasionally swap between 32/34x18/19, I have now got to stick with 50x28 with my 454mm chainstays.

Not 29er, not lefty. But it is full-suspension.
My Rohloff is on my titanium 26er with a chain-drive. I may yet swap things around...

Centre-track is much, much better than carbon-drive. It stays on, for starters.

I was pedalling pretty hard up a short steep climb a couple of weeks ago when I heard a loud CLACK and the pedals seemed to jump a bit.
I thought the belt must have jumped a tooth so I stopped to have a look and found the EBB had slipped.
I've since learned that the little 4mm socket hex bolt needs doing up *very* tight to stop it creaking or moving.
Faced with a 4km walk home after midnight, I chose to ride on carefully.
Despite being far looser than recommended, the belt stayed on and didn't slip.

I don't like EBBs for that very reason.

I've done about 550km single speed and 50km Rohloff now and there's visible wear on the pulleys and belt.

Assuming it all continues to wear at the same rate, there's a few thousand km left in it all yet.
I never kept a record of chain and sprocket wear, so I don't really know how it compares.

Graham - where did you source the Rohloff belt-sprocket carrier from in the end?
I'm having quite cheeky thoughts about converting mine.

A few more pictures for ir-bandito and anyone else who's wondering about fitting a pulley to a Rohloff hub.
I've tried to show how the pulley overlaps the hub body to clear the seat stay.

Gearbox people.

I just spotted this from HERE

[img] [/img]

It says its a 9 speed, sequential gearbox and it looks like its running standard cranks.

anyone know what the gearbox is?
