I have a Giant Trance 2015 model which is just sitting in my garage unused since i bought an upgrade last year. I am thinking of selling it but since its well used and in need of some serious TLC i am thinking is it worth it and will i get a reasonable price for it.
Off the top of my head frame bearings need changing, rear suspension not in the best condition and bike is showing wear and tear as it had a lot of use when i was using it.
I think its a waste just to leave in the garage but i would find it hard to sell for cheap knowing what i did pay for it.
What would you do?

unused

Get rid.

Whats the point in keeping? You've had your value from it. Whatever you get for it, is a bonus. Good time to sell in next few months, someone will want it if the price is right.

We've sold quite a few old 26" MTBs as they won't be used again and prices are about as high as they'll ever be now.

It is really hard letting a good bike go for a few £100 though....

If you’re not using it and it’s unlikely to be put back to rideable by you then I’d sell it on.

It might cost £200 to get the shock serviced and the frame bearings replaced, which might be worth doing before selling - depending on the condition of the rest of the bike.

The used bike market is still inflated from pre-Covid levels, but it's not as mad as it was in the second half of 2020. Might get a better price selling in Spring than now, but that's pure conjecture as new bikes might be more plentiful again by then too.

Plenty of people buy stuff like that as a project - OK the market is far more valuable for proper retro / trick stuff but there'll be two possible buyers
- someone who wants a cheap(ish) runaround and doesn't care about the condition
- someone who wants to rebuild it properly from scratch, do it up a bit

Chuck it on ebay sold as seen and be honest with the description. Obviously you'll "lose" money on it vs what you paid for it but that's the same with anything - besides either it's sitting there doing nothing or you've got a few hundred ££ and some extra space in the garage.

Get rid.
Use the money to do something interesting with your new bike.

I had pretty much my enitre MTB history in the garage. Several old frames that I have enjoyed but won't ride again. I had a big clear out last year. Also went through the spares boxes and sold off various might-be-useful-one-day parts. Nothing got big money but the total paid for some nice new forks and a more modern, 2nd hand hardtail frame. Shame to see it go but bikes are for riding. I'm happier with what I've got to ride, than what I had to store.

You'll get more than it sitting in your garage. I don't know what you define as reasonable price? Worth while your time advertising? Worth while your gain in space? Worth while the loss in the liability of another bike to maintain?

Hoard it! It will come in useful at some point.

Sold my old road bike for £100- would have been perfect to leave at my parents in law's.

Gave my old hardtail to bike recycle charity. Would have been perfect for turning into a gravel bike. I bought a second hand gravel bike instead and have spent ages making it fit me.

A mate had had his bike nicked, either would have been perfect to loan out until a new one turns up.

They had both lived in the shed for at least a year and been ridden less than 3 times.

I remember the times they would be useful, and forget that another two bikes in the shed would take up a huge amount of space.

Sell it.

Sell it, uless having a spare might be useful for visitors, or you have a niece or nephew that could get some use out of it. If not just get rid and buy some new riding kit.

sitting in my garage unused

I think that's your answer ^^

unless you are going to use it as a runaround.

I'll be having a massive clear out come spring time as I will be going from 4 bikes to 1. I can't wait to be able to get in my shed without smashing my head on handlebars.
