Three years ago I bought a new 456evo2 frame to replace my P7. When I stripped the P7 to build the Evo2 I found an enormous crack around the P7's chainstay...I was lucky!

I fell in love with it, I have been smashing around Wharncliffe most weekends on it ever since, it has done a few uplift days and a bit at Bolehills. The 456 has been the go to bike.

Sadly yesterday whilst out in Wharncliffe it sounded a bit louder than normal, a session on the keys at the bottom came to nothing as I could find nothing loose and the clutch was on.

I just so happened to glance at the short tube that links the seat stays to the seat tube and found a crack roughly 5/6 of the way around this short tube. Game over!

Well not quite, we rode back via some more tech and it didn't go. Thankfully my mate poo poo'd the idea of us going and hitting some jumps for it's final send off!</div>

I am probably out of any warranty period.</div>

The tube is about 2.5" long and appears to only be on the XS 14" frame, the others have different stays.

What are peoples thoughts. It was an absolute bargain at £150 new but there seem to be none left, somewhat unsurprisingly. There are plenty of builders and repairers in or near Sheffield if I went down that route. A couple used ones have been through ebay for less than £100 in the last month or so but that doesn't necessarily mean another one will come up any time soon.

Am I right in thinking the 456 is 26"? If so, I reckon you can probably find some bargain used frames on ebay. For example things like Cotics and Stantons in 26" flavor are often really cheap.

You could go down the route of a repair, but I would anticipate if you did this and then had a respray / powdercoat it might end up not being too far off the cost of a frame.

Repair and rattle-can.

Cheap as chips repair for a cheap as chips (but fantastic) frame.

@riklegge you make some very good points. I reckon it's £50 minimum but probably more like £80 for a repair, as for paint...I have many cans in the cellar. I'm normally pretty focussed on making financially sensible decisions but I love this bike!

@alexpalacefan know any local to Sheffield repairers you'd recommend?

Look at the sold prices for the kind of 26in frames you'd fancy on ebay, you may end up with a nice upgrade for the same as a repair.

May I suggest the NS Surge and Cotic Bfe.
